Broadcast 236 (Special Edition)

Dr. Carol Rosin, an expert on the militarization of space and transforming military space to commercial space, economic and job stimulation and more was the guest on this Space Show Program. As a result of keen interest in this topic and the questions/listener participation, this was an extra long program, nearly two hours. The entire program is archived. Dr. Rosin began her discussion by defining the subject, what is meant by terms such as the militarization of space, weapons in space, and what is available in space now versus what might soon be in place in space.

Having attended the launch of Space Ship One at Mojave, CA on the early morning of June 21, 2004, Ms. Horvath summarizes her experiences, what she saw, felt, and was thinking about during this historic event. Special Open Lines for this edition of The Space Show. Multiple topics were discussed, several callers responded to discuss the NASA Centennial Challenge Prize and the Space Frontier Foundation Return to the Moon Conference in Las Vegas in July of this year. We also fielded several e-mail questions from listeners on a wide ranging variety of subjects. The Space Show rarely does open line programs. Space Ship One: Initial Flight. The Space Show is proud to bring its listeners this nonstop broadcast of the historic Space Ship One flight from Mojave, CA on the morning of June 21, 2004. During this flight, Space Ship One became the first privately financed, built, designed, and flown space vehicle to reach outer space at 100KM/62 miles, and safely return to its launch site as a completely reusable spacecraft. Broadcasting live from the scene was John Carter McKnight, a frequent Space Show guest and well-respected Space Advocate/writer.

Dr. Chris McKay, a Planetary Scientist with the Space Science Division of NASA Ames, was the guest for this Space Show program. Dr. McKay talked about the possibility of life on Mars, information being gleaned from the rovers, the impact of the meaning of methane on Mars and much more. In having dedicated his career to finding life on Mars, he was asked about the impact on the search for life in the solar system should it be confirmed that there never has been and is not now life on Mars.

Dr. Jeff Foust, editor of The Space Review, was the guest on this edition of The Space Show. Dr. Foust shared with Space Show listeners new perspectives regarding the Aldridge Commission final report which has been leaked to the press and which is due out on June 16. In light of the preliminary information on the recommendations of this final report, we talked with Dr. Foust about possible reactions to the recommendations by Congress, the White House, space advocates, and the general public. Robert (Rob) Godwin of CG Publishing, Inc. and Apogee Books was the guest on this edition of The Space Show. Mr. Godwin discussed his latest book, "Mars: The NASA Mission Reports, Vol. 2" as well as Volume 1. While discussing Volume 2, he talked about the special interview with Warner Von Braun, the double-sided DVD that comes with the book, the Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity, and much more. We also talked about the full line of space books published by Apogee Books as well as upcoming books, including one where the authors will soon be on The Space Show.

Broadcast 228 (Special Edition)

Declan O'Donnell, returning Space Show guest and noted attorney in the Denver, Colorado area, updates us on his space governance program with United Societies in Space (USIS). In addition, Mr. O'Donnell reported on some of the activities at the National Space Society annual meeting last week in Oklahoma City which motivated him to develop an action plan to make sure space is on the political agenda in this year's presidential election and within the political parties.

Dr. Daniel C. Matt, author of "God and The Big Bang: Discovering Harmony Between Science and Spirituality," and one of the world's leading authorities on Jewish mysticism was the guest on The Space Show for this program as we continued with our theme of exploring our spiritual connect to outer-space. Dr. Matt, who graciously endured numerous KKNW telephone line technical problems on this show, helped us to both understand and see with a broader vision the relationship between science and spirituality.
