Broadcast 196 (Special Edition)

Captain Wally Schirra USN (RET), one of the original seven American astronauts, was the guest on The Space Show for this program. Captain Schirra spoke to us about his experiences as an astronaut, from the physical exams needed to qualify as a "Right Stuff" astronaut to the differences in going to space in Mercury, Gemini, and the Apollo capsules and their rockets. Capt. Schirra also talked about the importance of going to Mars as part of an international effort.

Steven Wolfe returned to The Space Show to discuss aspects of President Bush's newly proposed space policy to return to the Moon and take humans to Mars. Not only did Steven Wolfe evaluate and discuss this policy from various points of view, he also discussed space advocacy, its plusses and shortfalls, especially when considering the type of space policy program now on the discussion table. Steven and I also suggested ways for space advocacy to be more inclusive, thus to advocate to and with the general public. Mr.

Robert Zimmerman is a returning Space Show guest, an award winning science writer and space historian, a producer and screenwriter of feature films, documentaries, industrials, and commercials, and author of the current best selling book, "Leaving Earth." During this program, Mr. Zimmerman provides us with an in-depth analysis of the new space policy initiative put forward by President Bush. In looking at this proposal in detail, he also looks at NASA, its current structure and what the new policy proposal does for reforming NASA versus maintaining its status quo.

Chip Proser, award winning film, television, and documentary maker, was the guest on this edition of The Space Show. Mr. Proser, having worked on many space themed movies and scripts, provided an insiders look at the role played by Hollywood, television, and documentaries regarding space subjects. He concluded that Hollywood is not necessarily the friend of space that many in the space advocate community think it is and he explained why. He also talked to about space documentaries and television programs for space themes and how these two differ from the Hollywood model. Mr.

Rick Sterling was the guest for this Space Show program. Mr. Sterling spent considerable time outlining his views, based on his research which includes the statements and comments by leading space scientists and researchers, that most likely there are artifacts on the Moon and on Mars. In addition, Mr. Sterling strongly supported the new space policy initiative for returning to the Moon and sending humans to Mars as proposed by President Bush.

Frederick Ordway III was the featured guest for this Space Show program. We spoke extensively about Wernher von Braun and his Rocket Team, their work in Germany, their coming to the United States, and how they developed our space program. Mr. Ordway also discussed the space development and exploration visions for the future that von Braun is known for, and suggested solid reasons why as a nation we did not move forward to make those visions our nations reality, especially sending humans to Mars, staying on the Moon, lunar settlements, and more. Dr. Lindsey, founder and owner of www.hobbyspace.com, one of the web's best resources for space and space related matters, interviews, and factual information for advocates, the general public, and everyone, talked about the importance of bringing a proper space understanding and appreciation to the public and all people interested in space.

Dr. Angie Bukley returned to The Space Show and Dr. Jim Burke made his first appearance on the program in today's edition. We discussed the space policy initiative submitted by President Bush, the push to the Moon and Mars by nation's other than the United States, what the Moon has to offer and much more. We discussed space access, the best use for the International Space Station, the International Space University, China and its policy, and why we should be returning to the Moon. Dr. Bukley also talked about LaGrange points, both Dr. Bukley and Dr.

Leonard David, the senior space writer for space.com is the guest for this edition of the Space Show. We talk about the latest with the Mars rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, how JPL works and handles these two rover missions, his free and unfettered access to both data and JPL employees so that he can report and bring to everyone the latest on what is being discovered about Mars from these rovers. Mr. David also talks about his own views on the rovers, Mars, the type of e-mail he gets from interested parties worldwide, and his views on the Bush space policy initiative.

Jim Schulz, Founder and President of Space Resources, Inc. (“SRI”), is the guest for this Space Show program. During the program, Mr. Schulz explained both the concept and the details of SRI, the target market, its space access plans and launch vehicle options, the regulatory environment that will most likely apply to SRI, the financing of the venture, and more.
