The Space Foundation Conference

Space Ship One: Initial Flight. The Space Show is proud to bring its listeners this nonstop broadcast of the historic Space Ship One flight from Mojave, CA on the morning of June 21, 2004. During this flight, Space Ship One became the first privately financed, built, designed, and flown space vehicle to reach outer space at 100KM/62 miles, and safely return to its launch site as a completely reusable spacecraft. Broadcasting live from the scene was John Carter McKnight, a frequent Space Show guest and well-respected Space Advocate/writer. John did a superb job in bringing us every detail of the flight, the crowd in attendance at Mojave, and the emotions of the day. Please note that this program has been edited to delete long pauses where nothing was said or happening and to delete the numerous references to the crashing of the live365.com server and my reading alternative URLs for listeners to be able to hear the live broadcast. The original unedited length of the program was three hours, forty minutes. It now runs one hour, 45 minutes. I assure all the listeners that this is the full broadcast of the events this historic morning. The Space Show wants to thank several people who made it possible to bring you this live broadcast. First, again our special thanks to John Carter McKnight who did an outstanding job of reporting to us for over three hours from Mojave, starting at 5:45AM PDT. Next, special thanks and appreciation to the Space Show broadcast engineer, Tom Driggers. Tom made a special trip from Fresno to meet with me in the SF Bay Area on Saturday, June 19th to set up the remote equipment which was specially purchased for this program, as well as to teach me how to use it since this was the first remote show produced by The Space Show. Furthermore, Tom made himself available to The Space Show from 5:45AM throughout the broadcast on June 21 just in case problems developed in doing this remote broadcast. Next, special thanks to Gary Beebe of BSW in Tacoma, WA who quickly responded, recommended equipment, and made sure I received it time for Tom to set it up and teach me how to use it. BSW and Gary are incredible at providing unsurpassed customer service and BSW is a superb source for all broadcasting and audio equipment. Finally, special thanks to Pierre-Alain Segurel of DK Consulting, Inc. of San Francisco who maintains and supports not only the website and archives for The Space Show, but my computer equipment. Pierre-Alain had to make a special trip to Tiburon late in the afternoon on Friday, June 18th to configure and set-up my laptop to be able to operate the special software needed for the broadcast and to make sure that all the computer configurations were supportive of the new special features and uses that were needed to do this remote program.
