Ann B. Parson, author of “The Proteus Effect: Stem Cells and Their Promise for Medicine," joins us for an in-depth discussion and examination of stem cell research. Ms. Parson begins this discussion with a working definition of stem cells, the various kinds of stem cells, the probable use in medical research, and how they are obtained. We also talked about the status of stem cell research in other nations, what the U.S.

Dr. David Criswell spoke to Space Show listeners about the realities of space solar power beamed to Earth, specifically from the Moon. So far this was the most thorough discussion yet on The Space Show for this topic. All aspects of the space solar power issue were examined, including solar power from Mercury, LEO or other orbits above Earth, and the Moon. The benefits, costs, and risks were discussed in detail.

Frank White, author of "The Overview Effect" and the new book, "Decision: Earth," was the guest for this program. Frank began the interview by letting us know that an update to "The Overview Effect" is in the works. We discussed the perspectives he is using in the updated version and I suggested he talk to people who represent the overview effect as well. We also talked about his new novel, "Decision: Earth, which is a book about extraterrestrial life and lots more.

Robert Zimmerman returned to The Space Show to update us on the latest news and developments. Mr. Zimmerman had completed studying the full text of the Commercial Space Launch Amendments Act of 2004 (H.R. 3752) and was not encouraged by its full contents. He reviewed all of this legislation on the program, showing why t may be a limiting piece of legislation, despite the provision that permit space tourists to fly by signing an informed consent document. Mr. Zimmerman updated us on the space mood in Congress and around the country.

Brad Blair was the guest on The Space Show today, discussing lunar development, hydrogen, HE3 issues, ISRU and more. I pointed out to Mr. Blair some of the controversy surrounding hydrogen and HE3 and asked for his take on the varying points of view. Early in the show, Mr. Blair, when talking about living off the resources of space, specifically the Moon, the issue of animals for feed and pets came up. Mr. Blair's comments on this topic were most interesting.

Lucinda Weisbach was the guest for this Space Show program. We discussed her role as a member of the Space Exploration Alliance (SEA), what the SEA is, its membership, and its contribution to seeing to it that new new space policy vision becomes space policy. Lucinda talked about the Mars Society as well, how both the organization and Dr. Zubrin support the SEA and the president's vision. We also spoke about outreach and space advocacy. Lucinda shared her experiences with us in meeting her elected representatives and lobbying them on space matters.

Elaine Walker returned to The Space Show to discuss many important subjects ranging from Devon Island, the Moon Habitat with the Mexican Space Society, space advocacy, the new space policy vision and its impact on space development and advocacy. Elaine did a superb job in thoroughly discussing the Mars Analog site at Devon Island and the importance of the research going on at this Artic Circle location and the Haughton Crater.

Dr. Tom Matula returned to The Space Show for this program to discuss his latest proposal, the Space Markets Act of 2005. This proposed law is designed to stimulate within the U.S., the demand for sub-orbital and orbital launch services. During the program, Dr. Matula explained his proposed Act and answered many questions about it from listeners.

Broadcast 278 (Special Edition)

Dr. Harvey Willenberg discussed space nuclear power and its applicable uses for space commerce in quite some detail. This discussion also included a look at terrestrial nuclear power, its overall safety, changes in its manufacturing and design processes, and the proper way to handle nuclear waste. We talked about plausible lunar commercial opportunities and Dr. Willenberg spent some time discussing HE3 and its use. He also talked about other energy options with hold more promise, especially space solar power.

Mark Wolverton, the author of the new best selling book, "The Depths of Space: The Story of the Pioneer Planetary Probes," was the guest for this Space Show program. Mr. Wolverton took us through the history of the Pioneer planetary probes and helped us to understand their importance and contribution to our space program and scientific world. We discussed the science that resulted from the Pioneer probes, the technology that made them possible and the simple approach to the use of technology which enabled the Pioneer probes to work so well so cost effectively.
