The Space Foundation Conference

Broadcast 306

Dr. Ira Sharlip was the guest for this Space Show program. We began the interview talking about his desire to be a space tourist in the late 1980's when he escrowed his $5,000 deposit with the former Society Expeditions for the Project Space Voyage Program. Had the program actually taken place, he would been on the second tourist flight that orbited Earth from five to eight times before returning eight to twelve hours later. Dr.

Dr. David P. Miller, Professor of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, was the guest for this Space Show program. Dr. Miller began the discussion by talking about the Sooner Lunar Schooner, the plan for Oklahoma University to launch a robotic mission to the Moon that place two robots on the surface of the Moon. One robot will conduct a materials study of the Apollo 17 LEM and the other will start on a traverse to Lunakhod 2's last known position about 140 km from the rover's landing site. Dr.

Broadcast 304 (Special Edition)

Rusty Schweickart was the guest for this Space Show program. We began the discussion looking back at history and talking to Rusty about his astronaut and NASA experiences. In response to a question, he related to us that his EVA was the most memorable of his time spent in space. We talked at length about his EVA experience and what it was like to be outside the vehicle orbiting Earth. Rusty was also asked about ordinary people going to space as tourists given the rigors of his physical and mental astronaut training.

Broadcast 302 (Special Edition)

Joe Lennox, author of "Visions For Space," was the guest for this Space Show program. Mr. Lennox proved to be a most inspiring and passionate guest as he told his personal story of developing his interest in space, creating a now famous space museum detailing our human space flight program, and teaching space subjects to children and adults. Mr. Lennox did all of this while fighting serious eye and vision problems. His new book, "Visions For Space," details this saga.

Broadcast 301 (Special Edition)

Dr. Shan de Silva, the Department Chair and Professor of the Space Studies department at the University of North Dakota, was the guest for this edition of The Space Show. Given Dr. de Silva's expertise in the subject of volcanism, I began the interview by asking him to clarify the role of earth-based volcanoes with global warming. Dr. de Silva provided us with a solid understanding of the role played by volcanoes and their impact on Earth's atmosphere and climate, and then he explained how this fits into the global warming discussion.

Broadcast 300 (Special Edition)

Dr. Patrick Collins was the guest for this 300th Space Show program. Dr. Collins began his discussion with an in-depth review and analysis of space tourism, space tourism vehicles, financing, and companies around the world. Dr. Collins went into some detail to explain why space tourism is so important and what it means to people everywhere, including job creation for a world suffering from sluggish or depressed economies and high unemployment. He also talked about the benefits space tourism offers the beginning of our availability to tap into unlimited resources.

Broadcast 298 (Special Edition)

Shubber Ali returned to The Space Show for this program to update us on important developments with AstroVision Australia and the Australian space business community. Not only did AstroVision Australia become a publicly traded company on the Australian stock exchange, the company has announced its program to launch geostationary satellites for weather and other purposes. Mr. Ali discussed in some detail this program and the technology of the satellites. You will certainly want to hear about it given the wide ranging impact it will have across the Asian-Pacific platform and elsewhere.

Broadcast 297 (Special Edition)

Jeff Krukin, the new Space Frontier Foundation (SFF) Executive Director, was the guest on this edition of The Space Show. Mr. Krukin spoke about new position with the Foundation and outlined new goals and programming for this year for the Space Frontier Foundation. In response to several questions from listeners, he went into detail about how the Foundation views issues and works to support an issue in alignment with its goals and mission. Listeners asked him about extracting favors for the SFF agenda in turn for the support SFF has given issues important to Congress.
