Alfred Zaehringer returned as the guest for this Space Show program. Mr. Zaehringer focused on rocket economics during the program, explaining in detail why it is difficult and maybe impossible to substantially lower the cost of getting to LEO, the Moon, or anyplace in space using chemical rockets. In response to his earlier appearance on the program Jan. 4th of this year, Mr. Zaehringer was asked a series of follow up questions exploring possibilities for reducing launch costs to the next lower level, $1,000 per pound to LEO.

This program is a special presentation by Drs. John Jurist, Sam Dinkin and myself at the University of North Dakota Department of Space Studies on April 12, 2005. This two hour presentation was in the form of a two hour interactive workshop with faculty and students both present for the workshop and on the internet as UND presented the program as a webcast to their alumni, distant learning students, and to the Space Show family of listeners. Henry Vanderbilt returned to The Space Show for this program to discuss the upcoming Space Access Conference in Phoenix, Arizona April 28-30, 2005. In addition to Henry giving us details about this year's conference and impressive list of speakers and topics, we discussed Space Ship One and the XPRIZE, the new Bigelow prize, the Commercial Space Launch Amendment Act signed in December by President Bush and the new developments regarding suborbital space tourism and the alt.space community.

Dr. Alan Binder returned to the The Space Show last night to discuss his new book, Lunar Prospector: Against All Odds. He began the interview by telling us the Lunar Prospector story, the challenges he faced technically as well as from NASA, Lockheed, and individuals. This story includes interesting reflections regarding the upcoming NASA Administrator, Dr. Mike Griffin as Dr. Binder did not have very good experiences with him when he was the AA of NASA and working with him on Lunar Prospector. In response to a listener call, Dr. Binder discussed the possibility of water on the Moon.

Dr. David Schrunk returned to the Space Show to discuss his new book and the need for quality of laws. We discussed the need for quality of laws as applicable to space, but also to us here right now in our society. Dr. Schrunk made the point that we expect and demand quality control and quality in every aspect of our lives, why not law. He proposes no law be made unless it is has been designed by quality law professional designers specifically trained to design laws and that it is evaluated to make sure it is a beneficial law. Nathan Horsley was the guest for this particular Space Show program. We discussed many legal issues pertaining to space tourism, launch vehicles, and space development. We explored the very nature of informed consent and how it might hold up in a legal action to protect a company using it for space flight participants. We also discussed if informed consent would be sufficient protection or if companies should plan on going to additional layers of protection for possible legal claims against their company should accidents or problem occur. Dr. Sam Dinkin returned to The Space Show for this program. We began the interview by asking Sam about his space journalism prize and the creation of the Space Journalism Association. The prize has a deadline for submittals of the end of March 2005 so make sure you listen to this discussion and if you have a qualifying article, submit it before the deadline passes! We also talked about Dr. Dinkin's new business venture, SpaceShot, Inc., an opportunity that we are certainly all to hear more about as it develops over the near future.

Sy Liebergot returned to The Space Show for this program to discuss his book, "Apollo EECom: Journey of a Lifetime" as well as timely topics regarding space development. Among the topics discussed was the International Space Station (ISS), the Space Exploration Vision program, the new NASA Administrator, Congress, budgets, and the NASA culture. Return to flight was discussed as was the CEV, heavy lift, and the time table for getting back to the Moon and going on to Mars. Mr. Liebergot was not optimistic about realizing the new vision and you will want to hear his reasoning.

Dr. John Jurist, scientist and commercial space investor returned for this Space Show program. We began the discussion with a detailed look into the human factors that will likely apply to both space flight participants and crews per AST guidelines now under consideration. Dr. Jurist pointed out some reasonable medical risks that space flight participants might encounter and how to best screen for them in the application process for a ride to space.

Theron Lutz was the guest for this Space Show program. Mr. Lutz began the interview by talking about some of his experiences in the Navy while observing radar and its impact on seagulls. From these observations, he considered the effect of these beams on propulsion and the discussion then pointed to the devices and technologies referenced below. Mr. Lutz was able to give us good definitions and explanations of these devices and potential energy sources.
