We started our discussion with Ms. Heath and the Civil Space Day programming that she has been organizing for Wednesday, Sept. 10th.

Guests: Col. M. V. (Coyote Smith; Dr. David Livingston: ISDC 2008 Interview # 4 starts off with a quality discussion with Col. M. V. (Coyote) Smith, USAF, regarding the business case potential and the need for developing space solar power. This is a hard-hitting discussion in the hotel coffee shop about what is needed for space solar power to be developed. During this interview, not only do we discuss business case facts, but energy policy, the capability of the private sector to develop a demo project, other nations and their work toward SSP as well as their capability to do the project.

Guest: Lt. Col. Carol Welsch, USAF, returned for this special Space Show program. We started our discussion on the subject of last year's Chinese ASAT test as this subject was the focus of Col. Welsch's thesis at the US Air Force War College at Maxwell AFB, AL. As soon as her thesis is published, she will let me know and I will announce it on the show. During this program, we discussed some of the Colonel's findings and conclusions regarding intent, the scope of the Chinese ASAT program, plus many other factors.

Broadcast 557 (Special Edition)

Lt. Col. Carol Welsch, USAF, was the guest for this special program. Col. Welsch, as Acting Commander, Space Development Group, of the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center Space Development and Test Wing (formerly Detachment 12), Kirtland AFB, NM, spoke at length about the Air Force program and plans to fly as many smaller and secondary payloads as possible, using all types of launch vehicles, even those in Russia. We talked about the development of the ESPA ring which will allow for secondary Atlas V EELV payloads with the first launch of the new system scheduled for Dec. 12, 2006.

Capt. Brian Weeden, USAF, was the guest for this special Space Show Mother's Day program. Capt. Weeden joined us from deep inside Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, CO where he spends his time tracking space debris in the Space Control Center. During this interview, Capt. Weeden talked to us about Cheyenne Mountain, about being on ICBM alert during 911 at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, and the nuts and bolts about space debris in all orbits up to and including GEO.
