The Space Foundation Conference

Darin Noel is the project engineer at L3Harris Technologies for NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Optical Telescope Assembly.

In 1995, Noel’s career began at the Space Systems sector within L3Harris’ Space and Airborne Systems segment in Rochester, New York (a former division of Eastman Kodak).

The Space and Airborne Systems sector offers an extensive portfolio of solutions in Earth observation, weather, geospatial, space protection, small satellites, electronic warfare, avionics, C4I systems and intelligence solutions from advanced sensors and payloads, ground processing and information analytics.

Prior to his current role, Noel was the Integrated Product Team Lead for the James Webb Space Telescope integration and test equipment at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. In addition, Noel was the Webb telescope program’s Project Engineer and the technical lead for the design and integration of the photogrammetry system used to monitor the Webb telescope and support hardware in the cryogenic test chamber.

Earlier in his career, Noel developed shipboard and vehicle mounted radio communication systems at Harris Corporation’s RF Communications division. At Eastman Kodak Company, he developed integration and alignment equipment used for the first commercially available visible imaging satellite system, Ikonos. Noel contributed to designing mounted optical components for other large, spaceborne systems as part of Kodak’s Mirrors and Mounts organization. He led the composite structure development teams of the Precision Structures organization and helped develop large, deployable telescope architectures. Noel has managed numerous cross functional project teams as a Project Engineer.
Noel earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester.
