Ron Miller

After graduating from the Columbus College of Art & Design: BFA in illustration (minor in advertising), I worked as an illustrator/designer for several
commercial art studios before joining the staff of the Smithsonian's National Air & Space Museum as art director for the Albert Einstein Planetarium. I was responsible for planetarium show design, publications and exhibits. During this time I attended the launch of the Apollo spacecraft for the Apollo-Soyuz mission as a member of the NASA Fine Arts Program. Since leaving the museum in 1977 I have freelanced as Black Cat Studio, specializing in astronomical, science and science fiction artwork for books as well as magazines such as Astronomy and Scientific American. I am the author or editor of more than sixty non-fiction books and novels, many of which have received awards and commendations. I have created postage stamps (one of which is attached to the New Horizons spacecraft) and contributed production art and special effects art for motion pictures, such as Dune. As an expert on Jules Verne, I have translated and edited many of his books and been an advisor on Verne to Disney Imagineering. An authority on the life and work of Chesley Bonestell, I have co-authored two books about the artist as well as numerous articles and papers. For several years I was co-curator of the Bonestell archive.
