The Space Foundation Conference

Cathy Harper is the Marketing and Public Relations Director for the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She has been very involved in the X PRIZE CUP activities located in nearby Las Cruces, particularly in 2005 when the Museum hosted “X PRIZE CUP Education Day” for 1000 fifth graders from across the state. She was instrumental in negotiating the Designated Repository agreement between the Museum and New Mexico’s Spaceport America. Cathy is a member of a variety of organizations, including: Executive Committee, New Mexico Space Alliance Elected Advocate, Space Frontier Foundation Member, Teachers in Space Program Member, Southern New Mexico High Tech Consortium Member, NM Space Grant Consortium Member, Community Partnership for the X PRIZE CUP Member, X PRIZE CUP Education Committee Member, White Sands Film Festival Committee Appointed, Otero County Representative, Southern NM Space Commercialization Advocacy Committee. Graduated from Oak Grove High School, Oak Grove, Ark.. Certified Marketing Consultant, Brooks Marketing Institute. Graduate, Market Share Development Program, Gannett Newspaper Group. Graduate, Leadership Otero 2005. Cathy has worked for 33 years in various aspects of media, beginning as a cub reporter and linotype operator at 16. Five years as marketing consultant, reporter and photographer for a weekly newspaper. Seven years as marketing consultant and on air personality at a radio station group, followed by five years as sales manager, on air personality and newscaster. Five years as advertising director of a daily newspaper, which included retail and classified sales, graphics supervision, market share and product development. Developed, presented and implemented multi-media marketing plans for a variety of local, national and international clients. Published articles in OMNI Magazine, New Mexico Magazine, East Mountain News, Alamogordo Daily News, and BucksWorth Community News. She is the City of Alamogordo representative to NM Spaceport Authority She is the former Chairperson, Alamogordo Space Alliance and the former Chairperson, Business Support, Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce

After suggesting a category in the film festival for YouTube type space commerce PSAs for the teen through young adult market, we moved on to discussing the Museum of Space History in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Ms. Harper told us about many of the fixed exhibits, new exhibits such as Space Ship One, coming programs and events, the IMAX theater, and more.
