Guest: Dennis Stone. Topics: World Space Week, space education in the classroom. We welcomed Dennis Stone back to the program to discuss World Space Week which is Oct. 4-10 of each year. In our first segment, Mr. Stone provided us with the background for World Space Week, including when it became part of the United Nations which was in 1999.

Guest: Wayne White. Topics: Space law and policy, orbital debris, space property rights. Wayne White, noted space attorney, returned for this nearly two hour Space Show program. In our first segment, Wayne mentioned the importance for young people pursuing a career in space law and policy. This was a recurring theme throughout today's program. Wayne then offered an update regarding the issue of space debris and current mitigation efforts.

Guests: Jack Hagerty, Jon Rogers. Topics: Flying saucers in film and popular culture, science fiction, flying discs. Authors Jack Hagerty and Jon Rogers were the guests for this program to discuss their newly published book by Apogee, "The Saucer Fleet." As we started the discussion, the first order of business was to define flying saucer for the book and our discussion as "an aircraft or spacecraft with planar-circular wings that resembles a disc. 2) Any artwork or hardware made to indicate an aircraft or spacecraft that is shaped like a disk" as stated on Page iv of the book.

Guest: Dr. Gordon Shepherd, co-author of "Canada's Fifty Years in Space: The COSPAR Anniversary," was the guest for this Space Show program. We talked about the start of the Canadian space program dating back to Canadian space science in 1925. The story is fascinating and, as you will hear throughout this program, the Canadian space program has been an important contributor regarding how space benefits us in our lives and by making us all safer.

Paul Dickson, author of "Sputnik: The Shock of the Century," was the guest for this special Sputnik week program for The Space Show. Mr. Dickson is with us for about an hour without any breaks, discussing the impact of Sputnik from yet several different perspectives. In this discussion, we examine some of the non-space cultural issues such as the beginning of the women's movement, the integration issues of Little Rock, Arkansas and much more. Mr.

Dr. Roald Sagdeev was the special guest for this Sputnik 1 celebration program live from Moscow, Russia. Dr. Sagdeev provided us with historical and important insights from the Soviet space program and Sputnik. We talked about the cultural impact of Sputnik, space policy issues, returning to the Moon by the US, and going to Mars. Listeners asked questions about comparing the Russian space program with NASA, joint space operations, international cooperation, and ISS management and functions. One listener ask him about risk taking by the Russian Space Agency as opposed to NASA.

Matt Bille and Erika Lishock were the guests on this edition of The Space Show to discussion the early space history of both the United States and the USSR. Their new book, "The First Space Race," documents the contest between the two super powers to launch the world's first satellite. During the program we learned about the hidden facts and side of Sputnik, Vanguard, the U.S. Army and Navy programs and competition, and the little known Notsnik satellite program.
