Guest: Matthew Allner. Topics: space education, STEM, astronaut selection process. Matt Allner returned for this program to talk about space education and his teaching experiences, the NASA Explorer School program, how to become a NASA astronaut, and related items. This two hour program was in two segments. In our first segment, Matt got right into teaching issues including "teaching to the test." He got several questions wanting him to tell us all what is wrong with our educational system today, especially with science, fact, STEM, and space.
Dr. Doug Haynes, CEO of Blue Ridge Nebula Airlines (www.blueridge.com and www.bluenebula.com) was the guest for this Friday morning Space Show program. Dr. Haynes is an outside the box propulsion designer, space vehicle builder, and engineer as he is building a unique saucer-like flying craft for space travel. You can hear Doug describe his technology and his plans in this 100 minute Space Show program.
Dr. George Robinson was the special guest for this Space Show program. We began the interview talking about space commerce and issues of concern for start-up businesses. Dr. Robinson focused in on protecting intellectual property (IP), even from government workers in specific agencies. This is a must discussion as IP may be the determining value asset for the start-up for investors. We also talked at length about space property rights, even who owns the Moon. We talked in detail about the Outer Space Treaty (OST) and learned that the treaty provisions are not-self-executing.
"The Rocket Company" authors, Patrick Stiennon and David Hoerr, returned to The Space Show to engage in a panel discussing with additional returning guests, Dr. John Jurist and Monte Davis. The panel discussed numerous aspects of what is required to develop and build a rocket launching company using "The Rocket Company" book as the discussion basis. The panel discussed rocket engineering, business planning, single stage to orbit mass and economics, the existing alt.space launch industry along with the established launch industry. We discussed financing, markets, and much more.
Dr. Vadim Rygalov was the special guest for this two hour Space Show program. Dr. Rygalov began the interview with a discussion about psychological and isolation problems faced by Soviet cosmonauts in long term space flight. Long term space flight was defined as anything over 3-5 months in duration. Less than that is considered short term space flight. Furthermore, Dr. Rygalov characterized six phases of psychological status for cosmonauts/astronauts. Phase 1 was termed the acute stage and was approximately 2-3 months.
Eric Lerner was the special guest for this Space Show program. Mr. Lerner discussed in detail Focus Fusion which is also Dense Plasma Focus (DPF). Not only did we discuss the relevance of this for us all here on Earth, but for space travel and transportation as well. This program is a continuation in our ongoing discussion of fusion and I must say, Mr. Lerner's approach and what he is doing sounds very plausible and exciting.
Dr. Harvey Wichman was the guest for this special Space Show program. As Dr. Wichman is an expert in human factors for space travel, suborbital as well as orbital, plus since he is the director of the Aerospace Psychology Lab at Claremont McKenna College having done various human experiments simulating space flight and cabin condition, we spent a significant amount of time discussing the wide range of factors that can and do impact people in space. Dr. Wichman was superb at breaking down what factors concern suborbital, orbital, and long term space flight.
