We welcomed back Dr. Pat Patterson to tell us about this year's famous and exciting SmallSat Conference for the small satellite industry. Please follow along with us at the SmallSat website, www.smallsat.org as much of what we highlighted can be found on the site.  One thing to note that I found very important and different this year was the fact that much of SmallSat will be live streamed for free on the website.  Logan, Utah is in the Mountain Daylight Time Zone so if you plan on watching the live stream, convert to your time. For example, those of you wanting to see the keynote address Monday with Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, Associate Administrator Science Mission Directorate | NASA (https://smallsat.org/technical-program/keynote), that address has been scheduled for about 1 PM MDT.  For those of you on the West Coast, it would be noon PDT.  If you are on the east coast, it would 3PM EDT.

Pat spent time talking about the increase to 22 technical sessions (still single track) and 215 exhibits this year.  In addition, they are expecting around a 10% increase in the audience over last year to upwards of 2,800 this year.  The SmallSat conference is but a reflection of the growth in this segment of the commercial space industry as more and more discover the high value and affordability of the smallsats and what the industry is bringing to the table around the world.  Pat talked about specialized sessions such as one on radiation, plus he described the pre-conference weekend which was now an extension of what was formerly known as the Cubesat Workshop.  Don't miss what he had to say about the pre-conference weekend events.

Pat proceeded to guide us through the day by day programming for this year's SmallSat conference.  You can see this schedule on the website at https://smallsat.org/conference/schedule.  The technical sessions are described at https://smallsat.org/technical-program/tech-sessions.  Other topics that came up were registration issues now and at the conference, hotel availability even at this late date, and special fees plus student fees and a retirement fee.  We also talked about the student competition & the winners, getting jobs from employers at SmallSat and the winning of a total of $30K funded by the industry for the students.  Food, snacks, and lunches were detailed for the entire event.  Pat then talked about Flash Talks, networking, and the mix of people attending SmallSat.

Pat responded to several listener questions including one regarding how the SmallSat papers and proceedings can be obtained free of charge.  Before the program ended, Pat told us about new relationships with SmallSat and sister conferences in Europe and Silicon Valley.  Pat was asked if the small satellite industry was multi-national in character.  Don't miss what he said about this.

Please post your comments/questions for this show on our blog.  If you have SmallSat questions, you can get help and answers at https://smallsat.org/contact.  You can also contact Pat and select members of his staff through me..
