We welcomed back to the program Kim Holder, founder and creative mind behind Moonwards.com.  For the first 45 minutes or so of our discussion Kim talked about her work in upgrading and continued Moonwards development, her choice and use of Godot, an open source program for Moonwards, coding challenges, making the Moonwards lunar city realistic, including life support issues, and much more.  Visit the new design of Moonwards at www.moonwards.com.  I really liked the design as did our caller, Freemont John who called early in our Moonwards discussion to discuss how Moonwards was inspiring.  John talked about Open Source and then talked about possible open source constraints on the system by referring to the part of the Moonwards home page titled "Build With Us.  Don't miss this discussion.  Kim spent time talking about the future Moonwards that will soon go "live" plus the staffing changes she has made, some of the more technical coding challenges for making Moonwards realistic plus present and future budget  needs.  I mentioned many of the recent Space Show guests that have been on the program with topics ranging from space farming to closed loop life support to space architecture and suggested that Kim ask them for their feedback and suggestions.  Many of the guests Kim knew because she met them at the recent SSI Space Settlement Conference in Seattle in Sept. of this year. Before Kim ended her part of the program, listeners asked her about having a blog or feedback possibilities, her timeline to go live with the new Moonwards website (the current new design is not yet fully operational), and adding new staff along with how interested and qualified people could apply for Moonwards work.  Kim did ask for feedback and contact from interested people by emailing her at Kim@moonwards.com or through the Moonwards.com website using www.moonwards.com/get-in-touch.

For the balance of our program, I summarized The Space Show for 2019 and mentioned some of the plans for moving forward into 2020.  As our annual fundraising campaign was still in process, I also asked for listener support and donations to The Space Show, noting that all funds raised go to Space Show operations.  In addition, those donors interested in getting a 2019 tax donation for their Space Show/One Giant Leap Foundation gift should now use PayPal as I would have to receive the Pay Pal notification no later than Dec. 31.  Donations received after that date would be credited for the new year, 2020.  Those wanting to donate by check can still do so by making their check payable to One Giant Leap Foundation and mailing it to P.O. Box 95, Tiburon, CA 94920.

In summarizing the current year, The Space Show produced and aired 170 programs including the short Hotel Mars segments produced by John Batchelor.  I talked about eliminating the Monday program for 2019 but then later in the year adding in multiple special programs for both Monday and Thursday. For 2019, there was more guest demand for programs than ever before.

Another topic discussed was the growth in use of The Space Show blog with many new blog users.  I noted this was a good sign and hoped the trend would continue.  It was worth nothing that for 2019, there were far fewer incidents of the blog being hijacked by one or two users for their own private topic and/or discussion.  I hope this trend continues as hijacking the blog for private conversations drives others away from using it.  One more important topic I mentioned was the use of the toll free line and getting more callers to call the program to participate with guests and on Open Lines.  Since we now offer the possibility of listeners talking to one another on Open Lines programs, I'm hoping that catches on and drive more phone line usage on the Open Lines format.

Other topics discussed in some detail included Space Show sponsorships which are available for 2020 but in a limited number.  If you are interested, email me at drspace@thespaceshow.com.  Not only do sponsors get the banner ad on the home page which they can change at will, they also get their promo message read on air which is also on all archived.  This results in thousands of impression for your business and message each year given all the programs and the archive plays that go on for years.  Sponsorship is great exposure for you and a real bargain given all the business impressions and messages heard year after year.  I also talked about The Space Show Advisory Board, the fact that it will move from the OGLF website to the Space Show Home page, the Space Show book plans I am working on as we are coming up on the 20th anniversary of The Space Show (June 1, 2021).  Regarding the Advisory Board, I talked about possibly including participants in content review of The Space Show book, plus Space Show reorganization plans as I am considering changes to the program as we enter the 20th year. The Advisory Board will have a broader use in 2020 than it has had in previous years when it was mostly focused on doing this or that program with this or that potential guest or topic.  If you want to be part of the Advisory Board, email me at drspace@thespaceshow.com.  Regarding The Space Show book I've talked about  before, I put forth a type of organizational plan for the content provided me by a very successful book publishing editor.  If you have thoughts about that rough organizational and content suggestion, primitive as it is, post your comments on our blog.

Kim was part of the summary review for the program and offered her perspective and comments throughout the discussion.  She had some important things to say regarding the Moonwards Space Show sponsorship plus she offered up a unique perspective of The Space Show in the marketplace. I first met Kim when she called the program back in 2015.  Moonwards has certainly gone the distance in the four years since and I was pleased to hear her note the positive impact being part of The Space Show family has had for Moonwards.  By the way, I saw that first hand at Space Access this past year, both in her networking and with her presentation.  The Space Access audience and presenters were not the typical space advocate conference participants and speakers. Heavy on engineering and science, this group has dreams and visions and sets about accomplishing them with technology, start-ups good decision making. They don't just talk about their ideas, they bring them to life.  There were many others at Space Access with a Space Show background.  It was an oversight on my part to not include this fact in my 2019 program summary.

Please post your comments/questions on our blog for this show.  You can reach Kim through the contact addresses above or me.  Please remember to donate to The Space Show for 2019 as your contribution helps shape our 2020 broadcasting year.  Remember, if the tax deduction is key for you, please use PayPal by Dec. 31.  Instructions for writing a check and mailing can be found above in this program summary.  We need your support so please contribute and keep us strong for the new year.  Thank you.
