We welcomed Dan Adam back to the show for a detailed and comprehensive discussion on a few hot topics of the day, plus commentary on other issues frequently discussed on The Space Show and in other forms of space media.  Our program was 1 hour 40 minutes.  As with other Space Show programs summaries, I am going to focus in on the tags and key words as they do a good and concise job of letting you know what we talked about with Dan on this program.  Here they are again for your convenience.  For the most part they reflect the order the topic or subject was discussed on the program.

Tags/Kew Words:  "Dan Adamo, Inspiration 4 mission, SpaceX, Dragon, ISS, Inspiration 4 orbit, rescue, Starlin, light pollution, precision planisphere plots, Arcturus, F9 second stage, orbital debris challenges, mitigation, multi-object debris removal compared to single object debris removal, NASA, paying customers compared to government employees, media time for Dragon crew, shuttle crew model, FAA, FCC, rescue window, spacesuits, docking port, cupola, Southern ocean example, land anywhere capability, collision avoidance, orbit and location uncertainties, F9 and FH second stages in LEO, chemical rocket fuels, RP1, methane, Liquid hydrogen/oxygen, GEO debris measures, hypervelocity debris removal ideas, regulatory requirements as mandates, space settlement, space tourism, viability, biological settlement economics, gravity and radiation concerns, Al Globus LEO equatorial orbit, National Geographic "Mars."  AI concerns, AI ruling the future."

During our discussion we had a few calls and lots of listener emails.  On all of the topics we discussed, Inspiration 4, Starlink, debris removal challenges and then later AI plus some environmental concerns, Dan went into involved technologies and orbital dynamics math (simple version), and details.  Rather than attempting to summarize these more involved discussions, instead I recommend careful listening to what our guest brought to our attention.  Post comments/and questions on the blog which I will make sure Dan sees.  By the way and to be correct, Dan does not have a doctoral degree as was showing up in some of the listener blog posts.

One topic Dan spent time on was the orbit used by Inspiration 4 and its relationship with the ISS.  There were guesses as to why.  Some of the speculation focused on it being a possible rescue orbit meaning it would allow for the possibility of an ISS rescue should that be needed.  Dan thought that was unlikely because Dragon got rid of the docking port for the viewing area of the cupola.  The crew's spacesuits were not suitable to EVA work so he was unsure how a rescue could be mounted.  At one time he talked about an old NASA idea of having the crew get into special launch balls which are jettisoned from the craft.  The crew would return inside the balls of sort, hitting the water and waiting for rescue.  This idea never caught on so Dan thought it unlikely for a Dragon rescue.  Dan was asked if he thought there was any significance to some in the media complaining about less crew press time than they wanted. Dan did not consider that a big deal. He reminded us that these were paying passengers, not government servants or employees so there were pretty free to do what they wanted with their time other than what was needed for mission requirements.

Dan switched over to Starlink that also got much of his attention. He described his own viewing experience of Starlink satellites, he talked about dimming them for light pollution needs, FCC and FAA requirements plus he talked about how SpaceX was trying to mitigate debris and related issues while he did not see the same behavior from others launching constellations of satellites.  The entire topic of LEO and also GEO debris management received quality discussion time on tonight's program so listen and let us know what you think of what Dan was saying and of his suggestions.

Advanced AI was a topic.  This included the risks associated with AI including earlier commentary by Elon Musk and others.  On the topics of space tourism and settlement, Dan had a lot to say about the viability of space tourism but not so much for space settlement viability. You will have to listen to Dan's commentary to learn why he was suggesting a lack of viability for settlement.  Please share your comments with us about what our guest was saying.

Please post your comments/questions on our blog for this show.  You can reach Dan through me and/or by posting on our blog for this show.
