We welcomed Rand Simberg and Bill Simon back to the program to discuss their Evoloterra ceremony (www.evoloterra.com)  During our 1 hour 33 minute one segment program, Rand and Bill started our by introducing Evoloterra to us, telling us why they created it I the 1980s, why they modeled it on the religious ceremony the Passover Seder, and the importance of using ritual to pass memories on from generation to generation over time.  Evoloterra marked the first time humans left the planet.

Rand also talked about our having gone to the Moon for the wrong reasons.  Don't miss what he had to say about this and Bill's comments.  This discussion referenced the Cold War, the Soviet Union, and the crash program to go to the Moon.  In addition, he talked about Congress and their belief that there must be a big rocket as part of a government program to do things in space.  Rand disputed that.  We then took a call from Kim in Mexico.

The discussion with Kim turned out to be a long one.  Kim objected to using religious ceremony and ritual.  This sparked quite the discussion with Rand and Bill regarding, in their view, the necessity of ritual, the success of the Seder model, and then Rand talked about the spiritual nature of Evoloterra.  Toward the end of this comprehensive discussion, Kim mention a project which she later posted on the blog regarding a group video reading of each line of the Gettysburg Address.  Rand and Bill liked the idea and spoke with Kim about organizing something similar with Evoloterra for the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 coming up in three years.  Kim "agreed" to put such a project together for the 50th anniversary so expect to hear more about this later on.  Bill, Rand and Kim spoke about other matters related to Apollo 11 as well as Evoloterra so for sure listen to their entire conversation.

Our next caller was Dave from New Hampshire.  Our guests and the caller talked about ceremony, X-15 heroes, the Mercury 7 astronauts becoming famous, and the fact that Apollo was a huge deal carried out in bizarre circumstances.

Jim was the next caller.  As it turned out he was an old friend of both Rand and Bill and they had a sort of reunion on the phone besides talking about Apollo.  Before the program ended, I asked Rand what we should do next in his opinion.  He talked about doing things more naturally and mentioned the ULA Cislunar 1000 program and the work being done by SpaceX.  They seemed to indicate that we did not really need to do anything to return to the Moon, that the process would happen on its own as it is happening now.

Before the show ended, our guests talked about the Foreword by Sir Arthur C. Clarke.  Bill concluded by talking about what a marvel it was to see the Saturn V rocket and F1 engine fly.
