We welcomed Adlai Salcedo to the show to discuss his new website launched in September 2021, www.spaceisforyou.com. This is an educational website with a searchable database to help inform people about the part space plays in our everyday life. As suggested above, read their purpose and mission statement from their website at https://www.spaceisforyou.com/the-case-for-space. Our discussion with Adlai focused on our searching the site, getting examples, talking about some of the examples, Adlai talking about his favorites, telling us stories from participants with the website and more. Listeners suggested new categories and alternative search methods to better help the general public find matters of interest and connect their lives to space.
Adlai talked about their developing membership program, how to submit information and suggestions for the site and how to become a Space Ambassador. He detailed the role of the Space Ambassador so do listen. Also, he mentioned the existing Space Ambassador's and their home country. If you are interested in becoming a Space Ambassador, listen to instructions and submit your application which is at www.spaceisforyou.com/volunteer-recruitment.
Marshall called to talk Starlink, giant smallsat constellations, time zones and more. Several emails were received asking about animals as there was no category for them. As we learned, animals, of which there were many references, were under other larger category groups. Listen as he explained this during the interview. In addition, our guest pointed out that the site was being updated and improved as many new suggestions had been given them so it will be evolving in the near future. Most likely there will be cross linkage to animals from other larger technology groups such as satellites and GPS as an example.
In talking with our guest, their seemed to be a large focus on space and Europe with the Space Ambassadors, companies, and projects listed. Their plan is to be global so look for their site to broaden their database in the near future. I asked our guest for the specifics of the target market for the website and who they want to reach regarding their efforts at space education. He said they did want to reach all members of the general public as well as space professionals. I suggest you offer him feedback on the site by posting commentary on our blog. When checking out their site, be sure to read their Case for Space at www.spaceisforyou.com/the-case-for-space. In addition, read About at www.spaceisforyou.com/about.
