The Space Foundation Conference

Guest:  Open Lines with Dr. David Livingston;  Topics:  We had multiple callers wanting to discuss many different topics including past Space Show programs. We also received many email comments and questions over a wide variety of space topics.

Welcome to our two segment nearly two hour Open Lines program. We started off with Robert Jacobson, author of his new book, "Space is Open For Business."  Robert discussed the virtual book opening in a few days and multiple commercial space topics.  He also offered an eBook giveaway program once again.  To get your free eBook, listen to the archived program and some point later in the show, I gave out the password to get the book. Simply send me an email with the password in the subject line or the text of your email and I will put you in touch with Robert to work out the eBook delivery. Robert's book is very good, an easy and interesting read.  Don't miss out on this opportunity.

After Robert finished his call, we heard from Fremont John who wanted to talk about the book, mentioned the Open Lunar Foundation and the possible long term settlement of the Moon.  I took the liberty of asking Robert if he thought there was an HQ for commercial space and where it might be, similar to Silicon Valley for tech.  Robert said he did not think there was a central location for commercial space.   We did talk about commercial space cooperation, even on the international scene. We even speculated that the UAE after it does its Mars mission, with the new agreement signed by Israel, that maybe the two countries would team up for a lunar mission.

After Fremont John called, we heard from Marshall.  He wanted to pick up on an earlier comment about the state of and advancement of launch vehicles. HE started comparing them to piston driven aircraft and their maintenance hours.  He compared the latest with the Raptor engine.   This was an interesting Marshall conversation so don't miss it.

Another John called wanting to bring to our attention a speaker at the 2019 Mars Society Conference, Stefanie Schur.  She was even suggested as a guest for the show.  Listen to what this John had to say about her.

The third John of the day called, Ft. Worth John.  He spent quite a bit of time talking about R process and the recent John Brandenburg program this past Friday with Xenon and Plutonium ratios for the Martian Atmosphere.  I asked our caller if agreed with Dr. B that the case was now closed on his Mars hypothesis.  Don't miss what Ft. Worth John said in reply to my questions.  Our caller than went off on advanced propulsion, mentioned Mark Millis of the old NASA Breakthrough Propulsion group, then he talked about fission-fusion hybrid power.

Freemont John called back to call to our attention an article by CNET author Eric Mack titled "Space isn't just a distraction.  It could be our salvation."  You can readily find this article by search for it on Google.  In addition, he brought up an Aerospace Corporation chart presentation by Kara Cunzeman, a futurist with the Center for Space Policy and Strategy.  Search for "The Pathways Guide to Space Enterprise."

Before ending our program, we went over the coming Space Show schedule.

Please post your comments/questions for this program on our blog re the callers and those sending in emails.  We would like to hear from you.  If you want to contact any of our callers, please let me know and I will gladly make the introduction.
