We welcomed Rod Pyle and Aggie Kobrin back to the program for a 1 hour 25 minute mainly National Space Society program and event discussion.  We started off talking about the upcoming Feb. 4, 2021 event, Space Settlement 2021 (see https://spacesettlement2021.nss.org).  Our guests spent considerable time talking about space settlement, this particular NSS program and how it was created from the larger, privately attended space settlement program late last year, plus the many speakers participating in this new virtual event.  They also provided detailed viewing information as it will be available free of charge on multiple platforms, even after the Feb. 4 debut.  Listen to how they described the virtual program with networking and important Q&A opportunities.  Regarding the speakers, you will recognize many of them as several have been Space Show guests.

Following the discussion about this space settlement virtual Feb. 4, 2021 recorded event, we talked about ISDC 2021 which was being been planned for Los Angeles in late May or early June this year.  As you will hear from our guests, it is looking more and more unlikely that a live conference will be possible in Los Angeles due to the pandemic so they are making plans for at least part of ISDC to be virtual perhaps in November.  Stay tuned for breaking news on ISDC 2021 as The Space Show will stay on top of it.

The NSS quarterly publication Ad Astra will be undergoing significant changes and improvement for the new year.  Our guests told us that soon it would be available on the newsstand for anyone to buy, starting with a very special issue which Rod and Aggie described in detail.  This 100 page special edition will be available for around $15 US but the regular quarterly issues will sell for around $5.95.  Keep in mind, not only is the specific Special Edition free with your membership to NSS, so are all the quarterly editions of Ad Astra.  Rod described some of the upcoming stories, told listeners how to submit an article for publication to Ad Astra and then even I pointed out that joining NSS was a much better deal than buying it at a newsstand.

I asked our guests for their view on space trends for 2021, both for the public sector and the private sector.  Listen to what they said about private sector space  accomplishments from last year as they responded to my question about trends.  In addition, I asked for their thoughts on a return to the Moon timeline.  China and their lunar plans came up as part of this discussion.

Several listeners sent in email questions during our discussion.  Ben suggested NSS start a space book publishing company.  Rod was quick to reply to Ben.  Tell us what you think of Rod’s comment on this subject by posting on our blog.  Another listener near the end of the program asked Rod about any new books of his coming out in 2021.  The answer was yes so listen to the preview Rod shared with us.  Before signing off, I reminded everyone that the National Space Society, like The Space Show, is a nonprofit, 501C3, and very worthwhile for supporting.

Please post your questions/comments for Rod and Aggie on our blog for this show.  You can reach Aggie and Rod through me or the contact information Aggie provided near the end of the show.
