For this Hotel Mars segment, Bruce Pittman was our guest to continue the discussion from his AIAA Space 2013 Panel, “Space Exploration for Inspiration and Profit.” Bruce moderated this AIAA panel discussion of the same title. In our 11.5 minute Hotel Mars segment, we talked about advances with public/private partnerships, NASA changes in supporting and even embracing commercial space, private sector launchers with Orbital and SpaceX through COTS and Commercial Crew, plus commercial opportunities emerging with the ISS. John asked Bruce about robotics and both Bruce and I suggested it was not either or with robotics and human spaceflight but both working in sequence for the best possible space exploration and development. Near the end of the segment, Bruce mentioned funding issues as the primary challenge for our moving forward with space development and exploration.
