Guest: Dr. Ralph McNutt: American spacecraft and plutonium power sources, Mercury, Messenger, Cassini. We welcomed Dr. Ralph McNutt of the Applied Physics Lab to the program. We started our first segment with a discussion of the use of Plutonium 238 as a power source for American spacecraft, asking the questions about why there appears to be so much resistance to anything nuclear in space by broad groups of concerned people. As you will hear, Dr. McNutt said that by using Plutonium 238, we were and are able to do things in space with various missions that we could not do otherwise. Dr.

Guest: Dr. Thais Russomano. Topics: Space medicine and life sciences in Brazil, space tourism, space medicine graduate studies. We welcomed for the first time to The Space Show Dr. Thais Russomano, a space life scientist in Brazil. During our first segment, Dr. Russomano told us about her childhood interest in astronomy and space and said she wanted to be an astronaut. Later in the program, she talked about what happened in the astronaut selection process in Brazil as the process favored the military.

Guest: Open Lines with Dr. David Livingston. Topics: Nuclear rockets and propulsion, bone loss, radiation, VASIMR. This Open Lines program was a two hour plus discussion without a break regarding many issues ranging from space policy to nuclear propulsion. The VASIMR was again a focal point for discussion and this took us into a lengthy discussion of nuclear propulsion. Nuclear Thermal Rockets were the main topic but other nuclear propulsion concepts were discussed. This seemed to be the overwhelming topic as caller after caller talked about nuclear propulsion as well as radiation.

Guest: Dr. Pascal Lee. Topics: Phobos, Mars, SETI & the Drake Equation, space policy. Dr. Pascal Lee returned to The Space Show for an exciting discussion on several relevant and most interesting topics. In our fist segment , we discussed humans to Phobos and Deimos before going to Mars. Dr. Lee explained why these were better initial destinations than Mars, especially Phobos. Did you know that it would be less costly to go to Phobos than our Moon? This is a very comprehensive discussion that you will not want to miss.
