We welcomed Chris Carberry, Executive Director of Explore Mars Inc (www.exploremars.org) back to the program to discuss their upcoming Humans to Mars Summit from  May 17-19, 2022 at The George Washington University in Washington D.C.  For more information on the Summit, registration, events, speakers, and logistics, visit their website for all of these details.

During our 73 minute discussion, Chris went over conference logistics, main speakers (see them on the website), topics, webcasting and registration.  For a good summary of this program, once again I refer you to the tags and key words which I will repeat here:

Tags/Key Words:  “Chris Carberry, Explore Mars, Inc., Humans To Mars Summit, life on Mars implications, sustainability to assure Earth survival, Mars naysayers, innovation, The Mars Innovation Forum, virtual and in person event, ISS, private sector Mars capabilities, spacesuits, startup businesses, economic growth, SpaceX, the HLS program, private missions to the ISS, private space stations, congressional support, one way Mars missions, figuring out the gravity RX, Summit logistics and webcast,  Explore Mars congressional lobbying after the event, timeline for humans to Mars, the Elon Musk humans to Mars timeline, risk taking, additional event speakers, AI and robotics, remote medical care, students inspired by space and Mars.

In addition to talking about the Summit, much of our discussion was focused on the growth of commercial space and the private industry in terms of their capabilities for being a significant participant in the humans to Mars effort.  In this context, we compared and contrasted the NASA humans to Mars program and timeline with that of Musk and SpaceX.  At one point, Chris suggested that Musk might be too aggressive with his plans and timeline but of course the verdict is still out on that one.

Timelines for humans to Mars were of great interest to me.  Chris made some predictions on humans to Mars timelines.  He thought we might be able to start with humans on Mars in around 20 years or possibly by the mid-2030 range.  What do you think?  He also talked about bipartisan support on the Hill and the increasing national security role being seen for US efforts for humans to Mars.

Other topics and issues were talked about during this show but primarily we wanted to focus on the Explore Mars Humans To Mars Summit coming up later in May.  One other thing worth a brief mention was our ISS conversation along with the development of private space stations.

Please post your comments/questions for Chris Carberry on our blog for this show.  You can reach Chris through me or the Explore Mars website.
