We welcomed Pat back to the program to preview SmallSat 2021 for us.  As last year was virtual, this year too will be a virtual conference but with live sessions.  Check it all out at the website, www.smallsat.org.  The conference runs August 7-12, 2021.  Registration is required plus there is a registration fee.  Pat took us through all aspects of the upcoming conference, highlight panels and speakers, especially the keynote speaker, Lt. Gen. John E. Shaw of the USAF. His keynote speech is on Monday, August 9.  Make sure you listen to what Pat said about watching the keynote talk and video as compared to hearing the speech later on archives.  In fact, this protocol holds true for all the video presentations.

Our guest focused on a few items plus listeners sent Pat questions about logistics and programming.  For example, Robert wanted to know if there would be Space Force programming.  The answer was no but listen to what he said about Space Force and others addressing it as part of their broader talks.  Listener Catherine asked about cybersecurity at Small Sat. Again, probably not a stand alone topic but part of many other discussions to be held at this year's conference.  Pat also directed us through the technical session panels, the live sessions and events, the Q&A logistics along with how to do chat and networking.

As with all Small Sat conferences, students and awards are a big part of it and will be for this year.  Listen to what Pat said about the student papers, competition and programming.  Later, Connie in Houston sent a note focusing on orbital debris.  Pat deferred most of the commentary on this topic to the Small Sat sister conference  later in the year, the Maui Amos Conference.

Make sure you check out all the programming on the website, the technical sessions, panels, speakers and such.  Note that Pat said that once you register and you go to the conference site, you will see different information than you see now on the SmallSat general website.  Once you log in, you get full access to all the conference material.

Post any questions or comments you have on our blog or contact Pat or his conference team at https://smallsat.org/our-team/contact
