Welcome to our Open Lines program which covered two segments over two hours 10 minutes. During the first segment, I put out several possible discussion topics including the following: Recent comments by Elon Musk regarding changes in his Mars plan, the big rocket, moving away from retro-propulsion landing given how hard it was, going to the Moon, and the need for AI regulation. Other topics suggested included XCOR final layoffs, a claim by the press that scientists accelerated backward time travel for the first time. Here is the article with the catchy headline:

As you will hear during the show, many listeners wanted to talk about Musk and his comments and plans plus several callers took issue with the backwards time travel article and headline.
Our first caller was a first time caller, George. He was just starting to look at entrepreneurism regarding nanosats and smallsats and was raising questions though he was not yet fully up to date on what was happening in these fields. I pointed him in the direction of getting more reliable and current info and I hope we hear from him some more on future OL shows. He seemed eager to learn and explore.
Terry from Texas was out next caller. He wanted to talk about some of the Musk comments, Falcon heavy complications and risks and statements Musk made about risks and that those riding on the rocket would need to be very "brave." Terry also commented that NASA's Bill Gerstenmaier made recent comments about NASA not being able to afford the Moon, Mars, and more. Dr. Doug called in to talk about the Musk comments regarding going to the Moon. We both thought it made good business sense for him to talk about going to the Moon, establishing SpaceX cash flows, all while staying focused later on for his Mars plans. Dr. Doug was the last caller of the first segment.
John from Ft. Worth was the first caller for the second segment. He took issue with the article reporting backwards time travel. He had much to say about it, including the science referenced in the article. In this discussion, he talked about negative mass, tachyons, and the Bose–Einstein condensate. He also said the Musk moon plans made sense. Don't miss his explanation on this. John then referenced the Musk comments on the need for AI regulation but thought it was all overrated. He did mention the dangers of cyber issues. Don't miss John's AI perspective.
Kim from Mexico was the next caller. She thought AI was risky. Don't miss all of her comments on this including those pertaining to hardware. Earlier in the show, I had mentioned wanting to see something like a NASA specific mission/project suggestion box for ideas from the space world. Kim commented on that idea. We had an exchange about it and while I think it would be a good idea, it would divert resources and it would likely be abused as I explained on air. Listen to what was said about this idea, mainly by me. What do you think about it? Let us know with your comments on the blog. If you think it might be a good idea, how can we make it doable from the NASA perspective in terms of resources it may need plus how do we keep it from being abused by prolific and endless circular blog posters.

We talked about doing a program on thorium/molten salt reactors and more. Tim was concerned about US nuclear supremacy collapsing. I said I would make an effort to get the author of the article to be a guest on The Space Show.
At various times during our discussion I mentioned an interest in doing audio debates on TSS as well as resuming webinars. I asked listeners for topics and suggested participants for both audio only debates as well as webinars. I listed the tech specs for each which mostly have to do with decent phone lines but also for the webinar a good, fast internet connection so their use of the webcam will be sharp and will not buffer. If you have ideas for both topics and guests for audio only debates as well as possible webinar participants, please share them with us on the archive page for this show.
