During the first segment of our two hour five minute program, I opened up with announcements and a few suggested topics including more about the Space Show book I am considering writing to be supported by a crowd funding project. Other suggested topics included the recent Elon Musk statements about Mars in 9 years and maybe we are all living in a giant simulation like in the film the Matrix. XCOR and their suspension of the Lynx suborbital spacecraft project was a suggested topic, plus I asked for suggestions for a new online Space Show logo wear store since Café Press is having so many problems of late that they don't seem to be able to fix.
James was our first caller with questions about Mach thrusters and the work being done by Dr. Woodward at Cal State Fullerton. As I said, I would like to visit his lab again but this time with someone who really knows physics as most of the work being done in the lab is over my head. If you have a physics background and will be at AIAA Space 2016 in Long Beach or the area around that time, let me know.
The next caller was Mike Listner. Mike told us about space law and regulations happening in Denmark. This was a very interesting update from Michael. As I said, if I can locate a person from Denmark in their space agency, I would like to have them on the show. Michael also spoke about more news with the RD 180 engine issue and the new litigation with Orbital ATK and U.S. Space LLC. Michael described the litigation and we will follow it with him.
John from New Jersey called to discuss the XCOR development regarding the suspension of work on the Lynx vehicle and the laying off of nearly half the company employees. John commented on the Musk statements about the possibility of our living inside a giant simulation like in the film the Matrix.
As we started the second segment, Kim was our first caller from Mexico. Initially she spoke about ISDC and several of the talks, plus some suggestions she would make for future Space Show programs. Kim then mentioned a plenary talk by Jeff Greason regarding the creation of markets and pricing or valuing space services and products to create an expanded space market for commercial access. I asked Kim about space in Puerto Rico and she said they were interested in having a spaceport.
I fielded some emails from listeners including one that suggested a listener book reading list on our website. I will be following up on this idea with Spencer who handles our website matters.
Dwayne was our last caller. He mentioned the upcoming Phobos and Deimos Conference at NASA Ames July 18-19. Next, our caller talked about the Musk comments on Mars in 9 years which he did not believe was feasible plus his comments about living in a big simulation. We had an interesting discussion as to why such extravagant comments are often made by people in the space industry. Dwayne had some comments about XCOR and the history of suborbital efforts.
