We welcomed back Dr. Alan Stern for a quick New Horizons mission to Pluto update, that latest Uwingu projects, and a discussion of the ESA Rosetta mission and upcoming landing on Comet 67 P. Dr. Stern spent most of the time talking about Rosetta and 67P. One of the things he stressed was how risky landing on the comet would be as this was the first ever attempt to land on a comet. Its an interesting discussion that puts the landing in the proper perspective. We also talked about differences with Kuiper Belt and Ort Cloud comets, the actual Philae lander, the drilling tool, taking samples from the comet, plus some of the other instruments on board. Alan told us the circumstances under which the backup landing site would be used rather than the primary landing site. Please post any comments/questions you might have on The Space Show blog.
