The Space Show Deep Space Message for this month was submitted by the Senior Writer at Space.com, Leonard David and his wife Barbara. Here is the text of their message: Hello to out there…from over here. We don’t speak your language, so you may think that this message is more chirp than chatter from our little niche in the Great Universe. But if you do decipher this communiqué, we’re broadcasting from a small planet close to a neighboring star – a world of mostly water that we call Earth. Go figure. The two of us have been on this planet for nearly 60 years – due to the gravity of the situation. Little by little, our civilization here on this tiny globe has begun to piece together an understanding of our place in the Cosmos. Here in the year 2006 – a period of time surely strange to you -- we have begun to travel in space, even to Earth’s nearby, tiny, and lifeless orbiting moon, which we call Moon. Go figure. Here on Earth, we are among over 6 billion human beings. We are a civilization capable of great progress, and incomprehensible stupidity. We reach for the stars…but also stoop to destroy each other with weapons and words. It’s no wonder then, perhaps, you have decided to just collect this broadcast and file it under “Planets to Be Avoided”. We wouldn’t blame you…but keep an eye, antenna, suction cup feeler, or other tool of your choice on our little spot of floating real estate. This is a world of great promise, hope, and wonderment…a species that through this technology is capable of reaching out to communicate with other civilizations. On the other hand, there are those here that feel we are already being visited, perhaps by some of you. If so, let’s party!
