Dr. Daniel C. Matt, author of "God and The Big Bang: Discovering Harmony Between Science and Spirituality," and one of the world's leading authorities on Jewish mysticism was the guest on The Space Show for this program as we continued with our theme of exploring our spiritual connect to outer-space. Dr. Matt, who graciously endured numerous KKNW telephone line technical problems on this show, helped us to both understand and see with a broader vision the relationship between science and spirituality. We talked about the Big Bang and what it means for religions, spirituality, and how this might change if the Big Bang is ultimately proven wrong or as one listener said in a question, did not even exist. Dr. Matt discussed how Jewish mysticism, primarily Kabbalah, fits into this discussion and has had a relationship with space and science going back centuries. We also talked about the numerous parallels with Kabbalah, science, space, and mystical traditions from other faiths. Dr. Matt was asked how the discovery of life on Mars, either in the past or the present, might impact spirituality and religions today and I am sure you will find his response to this and other questions informative and thoughtful. We also talked about enhancing and facilitating our becoming space-faring by connecting with our spirituality and blending it in with our science and space development. This led us to a discussion about our being comfortable talking about our spirituality and connecting it with space development. The level of comfort is increasing, but clearly there are societal issues about this. It is not possible to list all the areas or topics of discussion that Dr. Matt and Space Show listeners entertained in this program as Dr. Matt enlarged our view of how we can relate spirituality with space, with science, and with our world of today. He also went the extra mile in making sure we understand the basics of Kabbalah and the important source documentation, the Zohar. Dr. Matt shared with us his unique work on doing a very special translation of all the volumes of the Zohar and this added to our understanding of this mysticism.
