Declan O'Donnell, returning Space Show guest and noted attorney in the Denver, Colorado area, updates us on his space governance program with United Societies in Space (USIS). In addition, Mr. O'Donnell reported on some of the activities at the National Space Society annual meeting last week in Oklahoma City which motivated him to develop an action plan to make sure space is on the political agenda in this year's presidential election and within the political parties. Having been told that there is an understanding among the political parties and NASA to not mention NASA or space in any serious way during the campaign, Mr. O'Donnell explored the possibility of developing vice-presidential candidates for all the parties that would campaign for the office of Vice-President of the United States on one issue only, space commerce and its development. Mr. O'Donnell explains his plan in detail on the program, reports on his discussions with the Federal Elections Committee, campaign funding, and the timing for this years election process. His concept includes developing The Space Party (TSP) which would function more like a club, providing vice-presidential candidates to all parties regardless of one's political position on other ideas. The main thrust of TSP would be to make sure that the V.P. candidate was articulate and able to clearly explain why space commerce is essential and to tell the story properly to a national press and those at each parties convention. Mr. O'Donnell's idea, if it can be put into action, would certainly assure that space development is certainly part of this year's presidential election process. Mr. O'Donnell and I are continuing to accept nominations for vice presidential candidates as well as feedback on this idea. All feedback I receive will be forwarded to Declan O'Donnell so please send your nominations and comments to drspace@thespaceshow.com. If you want to speak to Declan about his idea or learn more, feel free to call him at 1 800 632-2828.
