Dr. Brian Greene, the author of the new book, "The Fabric Of The Cosmos," was the guest on The Space Show today. Dr. Greene talked with Space Show listeners about developments and advances in theoretical physics. Dr. Greene was asked to apply the knowledge of theoretical physics to practical applications in becoming space-faring and developing our space resources. His response to this line of questioning was most honest and interesting. In addition, listeners e-mailed questions to Dr. Greene about the possible spiritual component of research in the field of physics. In addition, Dr. Greene was asked to relate the possible spiritual elements in theoretical physics and other scientific research to political pressure, control, or manipulation regarding research into advanced science. He explained why he did not think that it was necessary to do address physics and other science research in this way but does understand the risk of political pressure on science and funding policy. Dr. Greene discussed the speed of light, Einstein and relativity, super string theory and loop quantum gravity. Professor Greene went into detail giving us a comprehensive definition of space and time. He also explained the issues surrounding the bringing together of relativity and quantum physics and why there is a need for a unified theory. In response to listener questions, we talked about zero point energy, wormholes, and the speed of gravity. Dr. Brian Greene is a fascinating physicist and mathematician, explaining these and complex subjects in ways that non-scientist can readily understand them.
