Lunar settlement

Guest: Dr. Chris McKay. Topics: Mars, life in the solar system, moons of Saturn, South Pole Station, Antarctica. Dr. Chris McKay was the guest for this show which started out by discussing the NASA Mars program today. As Dr. McKay said, the program is in trouble and you will want to hear why he said this. Also, pay attention to the competition Mars now receives for searching for life from the moons of Saturn. What this means for Mars programs in a competitive funding environment is up in the air.

Guest: Louise Riofrio was the guest for this Space Show program. We started our discussion with out-of-the-box cosmology theories on the speed of light. She postulated theories about this represented by the equation, GM+TC^3. Guest: Winston E. Scott (Capt. USN Ret.), former NASA Astronaut, returned for this Space Show program to discuss his "Win An Afternoon with Winston E. Scott, The Astronaut" contest. When a school buys his book, "Reflections From Earth Orbit", they enter the contest to win Capt. Scott for an afternoon. Capt. Scott will come to the school to talk with the students about space. Parents, grandparents, and others can buy and donate his book to the school and enter the school in the contest. The contest ends Oct. 31, 2008.

Robert Zimmerman returned for this Space Show program. With some sarcastic humor and serious commentary, Bob Zimmerman spent much time during this program connecting the dots to a future successful space program to a resolution of many of the global political and economic threats facing the U.S. and the free world. No doubt many listeners will disagree with Mr. Zimmerman's political assessment of issues facing America and how they might impact space development but Mr. Zimmerman is clearly not the first to express these concerns nor he is the first to do so in the context of space policy.

Professor Haym Benaroya returned for this Space Show program. We began the discussion with Dr. Benaroya updating us on his upcoming conference, the Rutgers Symposium on Lunar Settlement, June 3-8, 2007 in New Brunswick, NJ (www.lunarbase.rutgers.edu). The professor highlighted the keynote speakers and talked about the conference format, goals, and objectives. In the second segment of the interview, we spoke mostly of lunar and space settlement engineering and technology.
