Guest: Open Lines with Dr. David Livingston. Topics: nuclear rocket propulsion, VASIMR, space policy, ISS, Constellation, Ares 1. This Open Lines program was a two hour discussion with many listener phone calls and email/chat questions. As with all open lines shows, they have a mind of their own and go off in a direction that you the listeners want. An Open Lines program is a listener driven content oriented program so here is what we talked about this time. During the first segment, I led with a discussion of the copyright issues for The Space Show.

In our first segment, Gary started the discussion with a look back on the Apollo program and Apollo13. He talked about what it was like being called out of a USC class and flown to Houston to work the Apollo 13 propulsion problem.

Broadcast 1056 (Special Edition)

Guest: Ross Tierney was the guest for this in-person taped interview conducted here in Cocoa Beach on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008. This was a very hard-hitting interview with Ross about Direct 2, its technology, its likelihood of being adopted by NASA as an alternative to Ares 1, and more. I asked Ross why we should have confidence in Direct 2 when it was basically a PowerPoint presentation given that it has not yet undergone any metal bending, any development or testing. I asked why there would not be design problems with it as there are with Ares and the NASA selected hardware.

Broadcast 972 (Special Edition)

Guest : John Powell was with us for this Space Show program to discuss his new book published by Apogee, "Floating To Space: The Airship To Orbit Program." John discussed airships to space, from the basic airships to the more advanced airships that he is planning on building in the future. We discussed altitude, density, shockwaves, and much more. John also spent considerable time on the economics of this potential spaceflight system, so make sure you hear this part of the program. He talked about upcoming launches and more PongSat opportunities.
