Tom Ligon returned to The Space Show and we welcomed Michael Simon to update us on the Dr. Bussard fusion program with Polywell Fusion and more. We started our first segment with an overview of Dr. Bussard's fusion work.. Our gusts brought us current with the status of the EMC2 Fusion Development Corporation and explained Polywell Fusion, the concept of using Proton Boron-11 (PB-11) fuel, along with the idea of using HE3 on the Moon.

Guest: Dr. Harrison Schmitt. Topics: Climate control, CO2, realists vs. modelers, Returning to the Moon. Dr. Harrison Schmitt recently attended The Heartland Institute's 2009 International Conference on Climate Change held in New York from March 8-10 (See http://www.heartland.org/ for more information) and he was on today's Space Show to talk with us about climate change and anthropogenic global warming. Our discussion was far-reaching, scientific, and factual. Listeners asked lots of questions and several callers engaged Dr.

Guest: Dr. Marshall Kaplan was our guest for today's show. We started our discussion with an introduction to his teaching, training, and education company, Launchspace (Please see http//www.launchspace.com/ ). We talked about his upcoming classes, Space Principles and Space Vehicle Mechanisms, plus other courses offered. Dr. Kaplan told us about the market for these courses, who teaches them, and many of the topics taught. In addition to talking about Launchspace, we talked about U.S. space policy, its importance, the risks it faces, and more.

Guests: Wil Simon and Matt Everingham were the guests for this Space Show program in order to discuss the upcoming NASA 2008 Regolith Excavation Challenge from August 2-3, 2008 in San Luis Obispo, CA on the campus of Cal Poli. Wil and Matt explained the competition, some of the rules, and fielded lots of listener questions ranging from He3 to telling us about the judges for the contest. Guest: Dr. David Criswell (Golden Oldie Replay from 12/7/04): Dr. David Criswell spoke to Space Show listeners about the realities of space solar power beamed to Earth, specifically from the Moon. So far this was the most thorough discussion yet on The Space Show for this topic. All aspects of the space solar power issue were examined, including solar power from Mercury, LEO or other orbits above Earth, and the Moon. The benefits, costs, and risks were discussed in detail.

Broadcast 278 (Special Edition)

Dr. Harvey Willenberg discussed space nuclear power and its applicable uses for space commerce in quite some detail. This discussion also included a look at terrestrial nuclear power, its overall safety, changes in its manufacturing and design processes, and the proper way to handle nuclear waste. We talked about plausible lunar commercial opportunities and Dr. Willenberg spent some time discussing HE3 and its use. He also talked about other energy options with hold more promise, especially space solar power.
