Professor William E. Burrows is a professor of journalism at NYU and the founder and director of the graduate Science and Environmental Reporting Program. He has reported for publications such as The New Your Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Affairs, and Smithsonian Air & Space. He is the author of eleven books on aviation, space, and defense, including “This New Ocean: The Story of the First Space Age”(published by Random House in 1999 and in paperback). This book is the standard history of the space age and was one of three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for History as well as being used as a textbook at the Air Force Academy. His book “Deep Black” is the award-winning classic work on spying from space. His next book is in progress, “To Arms the Heavens” and it’s about the coming weaponization of space.

Professor Burrows began the interview with an introduction to the survival imperative which is the title of his book, "The Survival Imperative: Using Space To Protect Earth." From this point forward, a most interesting, informative, and clearly eye-opening conversation followed for the duration of the two hour program.
