Mary Napier

Mary Napier is a business development consultant with GeneScout which caters to Venture Capital Groups and extracting early stage technologies out of universities and national laboratories. She was recently the Managing Director at BayBio where she and her team increased revenues over 250%. Prior to coming to California in 2004, Ms Napier was an assistant portfolio manager at a fund of funds in Detroit managing close to $100M in assets. Here she managed the Private Equity portfolio which consisted of indirect and direct investments across a broad range of industries. Ms. Napier has a background in finance and the sciences. She received her MBA from the University of Chicago in finance and entrepreneurship. During business school, she assisted the University of Chicago and regional entrepreneurs with the licensing of technologies out of the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She has been the part of three start up teams: BioDisplay, sold to Abbott Laboratories; BioWulf an Alex Zaffaroni company which has been recapitalized and Unimed, sold to Solvay Pharmaceuticals. She was a PhD student at Cambridge University’s Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute of Cancer and Developmental Biology. She has an MS in Biotechnology from Northwestern University and a BS in Botany from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ms. Napier has an active interest in art and is a member of the SECA council, which is an auxiliary board at San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art.
