The Space Foundation Conference

Ken Murphy is a passionate advocate for space awareness and space education with a decade and a half of experience directly reaching out to the general public on space topics, primarily the Moon and Cislunar space. He organizes the annual Moon Day event in Dallas to celebrate the anniversary of the first Moon landing, and is a long-time leader in the local North Texas chapter of National Space Society (NSS-NT), where he has organized projects like their annual Science Fair Scholarship and the holiday Santa Space Toy Drive to provide space toys (and dreams) to disadvantaged youth, and served as co-chair for NSS-NT's hosting of the 2007 International Space Development Conference. He also recently led the NSS-NT team that updated the Boy Scout Space Exploration merit badge pamphlet. He serves as a Physics & Astronomy judge at both the Dallas and the Fort Worth Regional Science & Engineering Fairs, and also helps with the teacher prep in the fall at SMU. His articles on the Moon and Cislunar topics have been published in Space News, at The Space Review, and on Space.com, as well as in the NSS quarterly Ad Astra, and he was also co-author of the Moon chapter in the book "Kids to Space". More recently, his first fiction effort, "Marshall Mike Moondust and the Sinister Selenian Subterfuge" was serialized in Moon Miners' Manifesto. He's currently crafting a set of Moon-themed STEM exercises like Mooncrete and Aqua Luna (when he can find the time). Ken can always be reached at president@moonsociety.org.

Kenneth Murphy was the guest for this Space Show program. We began the interview by discussing Ken's involvement with the National Space Society and the coming ISDC annual conference for the NSS in Washington, DC later this month. We had an extensive discussion with Mr. Murphy about education, outreach, NASA outreach, NSS and other space organizations and their outreach programs. We had stimulating questions from the listeners in the area of education, space books and libraries, science considerations for students and much more.
