The Space Foundation Conference

George Morgan began his writing career at the age of 16 With the Broadway-style musical play ALONG WITH THE GOOD. One year later he convinced the drama department at Chaminade High School in West Hills, California to produce it. George continued to be involved in theatre while attending USC and CSUN. After college he returned to playwriting. Since then he has written more than a dozen stage plays and musicals including SECOND TO DIE, NEVADA BELLE, and THUNDER IN THE VALLEY. He also wrote the musical score for THE TRIAL OF GOLDILOCKS. In 2001 his play SECOND TO DIE was adapted into a film starring Paul Winfield and Erika Eleniak. George currently has two screenplays in development – SHORT LINE – about a twelve year-old boy who inherits his own short line railroad, and STASH – about what happens when a man is released from prison for embezzling money that was never recovered. STASH has been optioned by Fortune Films in Los Angeles and is scheduled to be directed by Sunu Gonera (PRIDE, THE LION OF JUDAH). George has just completed two novels, MOON HUNTER and THE HAMLET SYNDROME. “I would just like to say how grateful I am to the California Institute of Technology for their willingness to take a chance on ROCKET GIRL. Premiering a new play is always challenging and risky.” George and his wife Lisa have six children and live in Santa Paula, California. He is a member of the Writers Guild of America and can be contacted through his web site at www.nevadabelle.com.

Broadcast 1071 (Special Edition)

Guest: George Morgan, playwright and author of "Rocket Girl," was the guest for this Space Show program. George's play is about his Mom, Mary Sherman, who invented the hydyne rocket fuel which is credited by many with saving the American space program. George told us the story of his Mom from her days riding a horse to school in Ray, North Dakota, to her coming to California to work for North American Aviation, to designing the hydyne rocket fuel for the Redstone rocket and our space program.
