Dr. Panagiotis (Panos) Tsiotras

Panagiotis Tsiotras is an IEEE Fellow and the David and Andrew Lewis Endowed Chair Professor at the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Director of the Dynamics and Controls Systems Laboratory (DCSL, dcsl.gatech.edu) in the same department. He is currently serving as Associate Director of the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines (IRIM, robotics.gatech.edu). He is also affiliated with the Center for Space and Technology Research (C-STAR, cstar.gatech.edu) and the Decision and Controls Lab at Georgia Tech (DCL, dcl.gatech.edu).

Before joining the Georgia Tech faculty as an Associate Professor, he spent four years (1994-1998) as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia. He has also held visiting research appointments with Virginia Tech, INRIA Rocquencourt (France), Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mines de Paris (France), JPL and MIT. He received his PhD degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University, his Engineering Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, and he also holds MS degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech and Mathematics from Purdue.

His current research interests are in optimal and nonlinear control and their connections with AI and real-time decision-making, emphasizing applications to autonomous agents and systems. He has published over 350 journal and conference articles in these and related areas (H-index 54). His research has been sponsored by NSF, ARO, AFOSR, DARPA, ONR, NASA and the industry. From 2011-2015 he was the lead PI of the ARO MURI award on “Neuro-Inspired Adaptive Perception for Agile Mobility of Autonomous Ground Vehicles.”
