The Space Foundation Conference

Dr. Angie Bukley is Principal Engineer/Senior Scholar for the Center for Space Policy and Strategy, Defense Systems Group, at the Aerospace Corporation. She provides expertise in policy analysis for the civil and commercial space sector. She is also an instructor for Aerospace University. With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Bukley’s career has spanned a broad range of defense and space systems research, analysis, design, and technical management. She holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Control Theory, from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, having completed her MS (EE) and double-BS (EE & Biomedical Engr) degrees at Mississippi State University. She is also a graduate of the International Space University Space Studies Program, specializing in Space Business & Management. She served as Associate Dean then Dean of ISU from 2009-2014. Dr. Bukley was a civil servant at the NASA Marshall Spaceflight Center from 1990-1997. She worked with The Aerospace Corporation from 1998-2003 in Albuquerque, NM in the Airborne Laser Program Office. In late 2003 she joined Ohio University as the Stocker Visiting Professor. After spending over 10 years in academe, she re-joined The Aerospace Corporation in late 2014 as a member of the Civil Systems Group. Dr. Bukley has over 100 technical publications to her credit, including four books, and has received nearly 30 awards for teaching and technical merit. Dr. Bukley actively promotes STEM studies to K-12 students.

Dr. Angie Buckley and Dr. Gilles Clément were the guests for this Space Show program to discuss their new book, "Artificial Gravity." During the program, Drs. Buckley and Clément made the case for an extensive study of artificial gravity and related issues for long term spaceflight and space settlement. We discussed many of the human factors associated with humans being in microgravity for long periods of time. This discussion included a look at the physiological problems, nutritional issues, neurological issues, and much more.

Dr. Angie Bukley is the Associate Dean, Professor and Space Studies Program Director for the International Space University, Strasbourg, France. Dr. Bukley has over 20 years of professional experience in defense and space systems and holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, with a specialty in Control Theory, from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Dr. Bukley is a Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and is the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University, Athens, OH, USA.
