Carol Saucier

Carol "Cap" Saucier: I am the author of Explore the Cosmos Like Neil deGrasse Tyson: A Space Science Journey, just released by Prometheus Books in March. This is the story of astronomy told through the authorized biography of a noted astrophysicist. I wrote this book for middle school-age students and up. With its beautiful illustrations of Neil as a youngster and images from the Hubble Space Telescope, the book will appeal to science fans of all ages. I am a pediatric nurse who also dabbles in art. I combined my skills with children with my artistic talents to write and illustrate children's books and articles in children's magazines. My other book also is a science biography. The Lucy Man: The Scientist Who Found the Most Famous Fossil Ever! is the story of human evolution told through the life of noted paleoanthropologist Dr. Donald Johanson. I have a Bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of New Hampshire. My Master's degree in Pediatric Nursing is from the University of Maryland. For most of my career as a nurse, I worked at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, primarily in Pediatric Endocrinology. I obtained a second Bachelor's degree in art from Towson University. I have the privilege to serve on the board of the Institute of Human Origins (IHO) at Arizona State University, a foundation for scientific research established by Dr. Johanson. I have traveled to Europe, several locations in Africa, and Asia in May with IHO and Dr. Johanson. It is through my association with Dr. Johanson that I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Tyson. In addition to writing and art, I enjoy volunteering in my community. I have served on boards for chamber orchestras and advocates for the homeless, as well as, for nursing and political interests. I am a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. I enjoy traveling and learning about new things, especially science.
