Welcome to our more than two hour Open Lines discussion.  Callers included Michael Listner, Fremont John, Ft. Worth John, Dr. Doug, Bill, and Tim (I hope I did not leave anyone out and if so, I apologize).  Multiple topics were discussed per the tags descriptives for this program but we seemed to focus on the fate of the ISS with Russia and the war for Ukraine, as well as space settlement with a gravity RX.  There was also some talk about the possible Russian use of nukes per the actions of Putin.  International partnerships and norms were discussed by Michael and others in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  When Dr. Doug called, he changed the topic to a presentation he made about Mars with humans back in 2019 which he was now amending.  He was on the line for a good part of the first portion of the program.

Following Dr. Doug, Fremont John called though he had earlier sent in an email asking if we were heading for the Expanse, i.e. having a profit motive for developing the solar system.  After discussing his email, we took the above mentioned call from Dr. Doug.  Doug's call sparked Fremont John to give us a call to again advocate for the necessity for space settlement to determine and know the gravity RX for humans in space.  He talked about centrifuge mice experiments, an unpublished Japanese centrifuge study on the subject and then we talked about free space settlements over surface settlements for determining the gravity RX.  This led to talking about how such experiments using the hopefully soon to be online private space stations.  The Sophie's Choice argument was brought up again, this time by me, because I don't believe it has to be one way or the other.  Both John and Doug chimed in that they too did not believe it had to be one or the other.  This was probably the dominant them and discussion for our program.

Bill from Raleigh called to talk about the recent Then and Now series I did when I was out of town.  His commentary was most interesting so don't miss it.  Funny how in some ways we have made giant steps forward over 20 years but in other ways we are in the same place we were way back when.  Bill was followed by Ft. Worth John who talked about Putin and this led to comments from an earlier show that suggested Starship would only fly in LEO with possibilities to the Moon.  Several listeners expressed their thoughts this statement which was originally suggested by Joe Carroll on one of his earlier programs this year.  Joe will be back on in a few days and I will ask him to go over his explanation of why he believes Starship will eventually be a LEO only vehicle. Almost at the end of the program, Fremont John called back to state he did not believe it was Sophie's choice re space settlements, then again he expressed his advocacy about the need for the gravity RX for settlement though he did say that there might be different types of settlements including those without children where the gravity RX was not as pressing.  Let's all hope that commercial space and space settlement continue down the development road so we can get real time answers to many of our questions.  Tim was our final caller just as we were shutting down for the day.  Tim offered us some good perspectives, excellent for ending our program.  Don't miss his closing comments.
