Welcome to our Open Lines discussion.  I opened up by talking about the adjusted schedule for the program for the week of Sept. 27, 2021 and two shows on Friday, Oct. 1, including the evening show with Mary Roach on her new book "Fuzz."  I also talked about the copyright problem I had with  PicRights International Inc on the supposed unauthorized use of a guest bio picture on TSS website. I explained the problem, the consequences and the software PicRights and others are using to find unauthorized photo and document uses, even for small players like TSS/OGLF.  As I said on air, I will post the general PicRights letter on the blog, plus their explanation of how they are finding unauthorized photo and document uses and going after the users.

Michael Listner was the first caller.  Michael wanted to talk about the Inspiration 4 flight and what the UN Sec. General said about it at the UN. We then talked about naysayers regarding commercial space, space tourism, the billionaires going to space.  Michael mentioned that both China and Russia do not look upon commercial space with favor and we both hoped that the US continues to be supportive of both tourism and commercial space.  Michael talked about the importance of commercial space to the economy and national security.  I also asked Michael about possible trigger points that could tell us the way the U.S. might go in terms of continuing or pulling back commercial space industry support.  Before hanging up, Michael also told us about a bill introduced in the House by a California representative to abolish the space force.  Here is one of the articles mentioning this proposed bill:  https://huffman.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/huffman-introduces-bill-to-abolish-wasteful-space-force.  The representative introducing the bill is the representative for my part of California.  Yet another reason to consider a move to Las Vegas, something I am considering and have mentioned on earlier Space Show programs.  I hope the bill does not get traction as I am supportive of The Space Force.

Dr. Doug called to talk about his inflatable mockup habs and his looking for a display place.  He described the full size mockups, talked about how they inflate and how long it takes to inflate them and his purpose in presenting them to people.  He will be posting photos of them on our blog.  Doug then talked about why he was changing his space advocacy. He explained his Moon first advocacy but was moderating it to favor Mars because of several advantages he mentioned during his call.  Doug went on to talk about retirement communities on Mars, a topic he has talked about before on TSS and in other forums.  He got some blowback on that from me but also from Fremont John who referenced some of the recent Dan Adamo space settlement commentary questioning the economic viability of space settlements and wanting to know what those living on space settlement would do for value.  Doug said he has answered this type of objection before with the concept of advanced retirement communities which he described.  I suggested to Doug that comparing Earth based retirement communities to something like that on Mars was a bad example. I then asked for listeners to post their ideas about the retirement community and market for one on Mars.  Fremont John sent in challenging emails which I read on air.  Doug was questioned about getting realistic market information for people who might want to move to Mars to live underground under regolith in a retirement community.  When I questioned him on his possible numbers for those willing to go to Mars to live underground on a "hell hole," he challenged back and then I had the idea to see if Dr. Collins could create a realistic market survey to get decent information on this issue.  Stay tuned for future shows regarding this question but do post your thoughts or retirement communities for the wealthy on Mars (they could possibly afford to go).  Doug had a bit more to talk with us about and he got a few more listener questions so don't miss what he had to say and his ideas for Active Retirement Communities on Mars.

Ft. Worth John was the next caller to talk about a book on UAPs by an Australian journalist. John posted information about the book on our blog.  Fremont John called in next with his nine comment lightening round set of topics.  Fremont John has posted all on our blog so if you miss something in our discussion, check it out with links on the blog.   If you have any comments about any of the nine stories, please post your commentary on the blog.  You can reach Fremont John through me or his blog should you want to contact him.

Our last caller was Kim of Moonwards. Kim wanted to talk about how space folks don't sell space very well to the public.  She talked about selling space in a way that shows people what space can do for those of us on Earth. She used several examples, both pro and con and talked about the egos and personalities of Musk and Bezos saying they were counterproductive.  Kim's call was interesting and on point.  While I believe people can go to Mars or do other expensive adventures if they want, I don't think it should be on the government dime and if they do themselves in on their adventure, they own it.  Also, if they need to be rescued, I believe they should have to pay for their rescue or at least contribute to it but I definitely people should be able to do adventure things, including going to Mars without government having to approve their actions.  That said, I agreed with Kim in that I believe people in the space industry do a lousy job of marketing or selling space to the public.  I urge you to listen to all of what Kim was talking about.  Note that I even gave her a suggestion for a possible side business for her but I doubt she took my suggestion to heart or even seriously.

Fremont John called to talk to Kim because this subject about doing settlement in space to help back here on Earth has come up on frequent and recent Space Show programs. John mentioned the recent program with Dr. Matula.  I forgot to mention Friday's program with Jose but that was also a key part of what he talked about on the Jose program.  Other recent guests have sounded a similar note.  Do you think anyone is listening?  John mentioned the Dan Adamo settlement comments to Kim before he got off the phone.  Listen for her response.

Please post your comments/questions for this program on our blog.  If you want to get in touch with a specific caller, let me know and I will see if I can make it happen.
