John Batchelor and I welcomed Dr. Malcolm LeCompte to the show to discuss the archaeological research findings about a Tunguska size airburst bolide 50 meters wide in the Jordan Valley Dead Sea area about 1650 BCE (3600 years ago) totally destroying the area and around 10,000 people at that time. You can read the Nature article on this story, "A Tunguska sized airburst destroyed Tall el-Hammam a Middle Bronze Age city in the Jordan Valley near the Dead Sea" at https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-97778-3. Our guest described the research so far( the dig), the finding of materials that had melted at extreme heat, beyond the type of heat that could have been created at the time which was about 1400 centigrade. He described what the airburst probably looked like from the ground before everything and everyone in a huge area was destroyed, plus he said they were headed back as they may have found the crater created by the impact. I suggest reading the Nature article plus it is a widely reported story so you can easily get additional information if you are interested. The Space Show is interested and has invited Dr. LeCompte to come on The Space Show for a full interview program and discussion.
