We welcomed Dr. Bruce Cordell back to the program for this 1 hour 53 minute discussion focusing on the possibilities of another large Apollo-like space project happening during the new Trump Administration.  Dr. Cordell once again explained the Maslow Windows, the trends that he has spotted in play, and return of an ebullient society, all of which are needed for the Maslow Window to produce the big vision space project.  Much of the first segment of today's program dealt with the trends in play, the characteristics of a big vision space project, and the role to be played by the general population, the new administration & president, and NASA administrator.  Our guest detailed these elements for a comprehensive understanding of what he believes will be a terrific opportunity starting to unfold in the near future.  Several listener emails came in, all of which were designed to draw Bruce out for more information, to examine options, alternatives, and variations as to how the big vision space project my unfold and what it might look like.

In the second segment, Bruce talked about specific types of projects that fit his description including Bigelow space stations and the Musk-SpaceX Mars program.  He said these were big vision project and might very well unfold as Public Private Partnerships, meaning there would be government involvement. He repeated that typically the government is involved in the project and for space it needs to involve human spaceflight.  Bruce went on to talk about many of the human spaceflight challenges needing some sort of resolution including determining the gravity prescription for humans, resolving psychological issues, achieving early Earth independence, and the need for the new NASA administrator to think big.

Our guest had much to say about President-elect Trump.  He said he was a big thinker, a big vision person and that was what was needed for the development of a Maslow Window type project.  I asked Bruce for the leading indicators that we should be on the look out for assuming he is right about his trend analysis.  He said the election results were the biggest leading indicator.  Then he would look for there to be stated goals by the administration.  Bruce then mentioned that there would need to be an enhanced willingness to accept risk.  I tried pinning him down to a specific timeline but the most I got was "soon."  He did offer some near term possibilities regarding his trends and analysis so I told him he would come back on the show the end of the first quarter or early in the second quarter and we would hold him accountable for his analysis.  I hope when he comes back he will have a very high accuracy and accountability factor that we can discuss.
