John Batchelor and I welcomed Dr Karen Meech to the program to discuss the two interstellar comets we have discovered, Comet Borisov and Comet Oumuamua.  During this two segment Hotel Mars program, our guest described the differences between the two comets, how we know they are from another solar systems, what it means to be unbound by the sun's gravitational field, visibility and brightness issues, gassing for comet movement, tails, and even a hypothetical rendezvous mission for the future that would very much assist our analysis of such fast moving interstellar travelers.  Dr. Meech talked about both interstellar and solar system comets, their tails, their core, what HST is now seeing regarding Borisov and what it will see as Borisov moves into better view during the coming year.  Our guest also commented on the idea proposed by Dr. Loeb that Oumuamua might have some intelligent guidance.  Don't miss what she said about that idea.

You can email Mr. Batchelor or Dr.. Meech through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com.  Dr. Meech can also be reached through her University of Hawaii faculty pages.
