John Batchelor and I welcomed back Dr. Haym Benaroya to discuss living on the Moon and Mars in our lifetime per the NY Times article mentioned above dated Oct. 1, 2023. Haym suggested both technology and biological advances were needed for both lunar and Mars living. He talked about regolith concerns and issues, the need to for water for construction along with human consumption, radiation concerns, shielding, lava tubes and more. Toward the end of the discussion he suggested the Moon would be first to develop then Mars would follow about 15 years post lunar living. Haym mentioned the partnership with ICON for lunar habitat developing and the enhanced use of 3D printing.
Please post your comments/questions for this discussion on our blog for this show.
You can email Mr. Batchelor or Dr. Benaroya through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com. Haym can be reached through his Rutgers University faculty page.
