The Space Show welcomed Karlton Johnson to the show for his first but certainly not his last visit. Col. Johnson is currently the Chairman of the NSS Board of Governors but our interviewed reached further into the experiences of our guest than just NSS topics.  My initial opening question asked him why our guest sought his current NSS position.  In answering the question, he told a great personal story going back many years in his life.  This turned out to be an excellent way to kickoff our full Space Show program.  Make sure you hear all of our opening.  He hit on leadership, going toward the gunfire both in reality and as a metaphor, finding right opportunities and maximizing them for your potential, and then fully understanding that space is cool and the place to be.

Our guest was asked about space settlement and the NSS given the recent NSS Ad Astra Space Show program on the special edition issue "Living In Space."  Karlton and I had a full discussion on space settlement, including his saying he was not happy with the term settlement which he then explained in some detail.  Listen to what our guest said and then share your thoughts with us on this subject by posting on our blog.  Note what he said were his reasons to go into space, to create settlements and then to return but to return with what?  Listen up for the answer.  We talked space settlement, value propositions, biotech, and more.  Our guest also talked about the ROI for every dollar invested as being very important.

Later, Ellen from San Antonio wanted more information on comparing the leadership for NSS to his corporate leadership experience. Don't miss what Karlton had to say in response to this question.  This discussion was followed by a call from Marshal who wanted to discuss talking to grand children and others about space value and importance.  Karlton and Marshall talked about heroic challenges and the space value for kids.

Bob sent in a note asking if NSS worked with other space advocacy companies. Note the response by our guest and the reference to Jodi Foster in the movie Contac.  Based on this comment, we talked about science fiction and space development.  Listen to the third grade experience story told us by our guest.  Lots was said about sci fi and space.  Later in the program, Karlton went on to talk about a value proposition in NSS programming such as March Storm which he described in detail.

As we were nearing the end of the show, our guest was asked to define what was meant by space nations needing to control the "high ground."  Karlton spent time responding to this question by talking about the military, adversaries, our new Space Force, bad actors, resource protection and more.  Our discussion addressed some national security concerns, he stressed focusing on adversaries and bad actors as real threats and then toward the end of his comments on the subject, I asked him to repeat his definition of the high ground.  For sure don't miss this important additional discussion.  Our final topic dealt with educational and other types of NSS outreach, plus he asked the question of large hotel groups like Hilton were ready and aware of the potential push coming from space tourism with space destinations in mind.

Please post your comments/questions for our guest on the blog for this show.  You can reach our guest through NSS or me here at The Space Show.
