Dr. Bae is Chief Scientist and Founder of Y.K. Bae Corp, Advanced Space Technologies. He has investigated advanced propulsion for more than 30 years after receiving a Physics Ph.D. from UC Berkeley. He researched antimatter propulsion and other advanced propulsion systems at the SRI International and the US Air Force Rocket Propulsion Lab. After discovering, scaling-up and propulsion demonstration of Photonic Laser Thruster under the auspice of NASA, he and his team established that Photonic Laser Thruster can propel spacecraft to about 1 % of light speed at energy efficiency of 50 % without using propellant. His current focus is on developing Photonic Laser Thruster for interplanetary Photonic Railway for enabling humanity to establish a multiplanetary civilization. The multiplanetary civilization that he envisions is capable of efficiently utilizing the abundant resources on planets, moons and asteroids in the solar system and freely commuting between them in addition to permanently residing near and on them.
