Dr. Kirby Runyon

Dr. Kirby Runyon is a planetary geologist at Johns Hopkins APL and a science team member on NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. His research focuses on using spacecraft images to understand the geologic processes that shape beautiful, alien landforms on planets, moons, and small bodies across the solar system. He is passionate about helping the public understand and get excited about space exploration, and since 2017 has been working to promote a holistic view of the solar system in the mind of the public beyond simply the Sun and 8 or 9 planets. He lives in Ellicott City, Maryland.
