Doug Jones

Doug Jones is a co-founder of XCOR where he contributes to rocket engine designs from concept to hardware, and designs control systems, test stands and thermodynamic cycles, while occasionally also serving as flight test engineer on rocket planes. At XCOR Doug is known as the Rocket Whisperer for his innate ability to detect minute anomalies in a propulsion system. Before joining XCOR, Doug coordinated the assembly, testing, inspection and data analysis of kerosene/LOX engines up to 5,000 lbf for the Rotary Rocket Company. Earlier, he designed, built, and tested a 400 lbf nitrous oxide/propane engine, its test stand, and a high altitude balloon system for Vela Technology. He is experienced in analog and digital circuit design, is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Rocket Test Group (RTG), and the Society of Flight Test Engineers (SFTE). Doug has also leaped out of perfectly good airplanes, performed original comedy on stage, driven a taxicab, and been a labor organizer, among other misadventures.
